Hey Gurus, I am going to the military in a months time and as I am here eating my mothers famous fish cake I was curious as to what your parents cooking is your favourite?
Biryani, Kapsa, Taajin, Okra/Bamya, Roast Meat/Chicken with veg/potatoes, Lobia polo, Chicken & Mushroom with mushroom sauce, Chicken Korma, Curry, Koshari, Grilled Salmon, Sunday roast, Fish & Chips, Jacket potato with butter, cheese and beans, Thai curry, Chicken risotto, Lasagne, Taboola salad, Fattoush salad, greek salad, Steak with mushroom, beef stroganoff, etc...
My mother used to make this sort of donut form with mashed potatoes and put her home-made sauce in it.
Speaking of mother's cooking, Chinese new year is coming next month, so me and family would be eating mom's special foods. Here are some of them: - chicken curry - bamboo shoot with dried shrimps - gado-gado (vegetable salad with peanut dressing) - stir fried male papaya flowers (these flowers are extremely bitter if you don't know how to cook them) - specially seasoned duck (i don't know the name of the dish)
A mixture of classic English and Italian with my mother, anything from Shepard's pie to a Bolognese. Chicken Hot Pot to Carbonara, she tends to experiment with pasta based dishes a lot also.
I make better food then my parents so I usually cook when I visit them! Well my father does make good karelian hotpot. Dunno what they like, everything I make.
Forgot about your obsession with Whiskies! I have to say, and I will sound like a total ass happily, I feel I cook much better than my Mother (my father was damned good) however she has only one thing I can't do - a simple Watercress Soup!
Well my Mom is considered the best cook by pretty much everyone I know, so I'm not even sure where to begin. She makes all sorts of food, although the past 10+ years has been focused on leaner, healthier eating. It's all good though, and from scratch - no semi made crap off the shelf. She doesn't really use recipes that much anymore, so I'm not sure what the name is off most of it. My favorite is probably a good Sirloin tip Roast with carrots, onions and potatoes. Southern Biscuit Muffins, Broccoli salad, 3 Bean Bake, Jello (with yogurt and bananas in it) and Apple Cobbler for dessert. --- Ask me tomorrow and that list might change. lol
Haha, I'm done with whiskies until next winter My parents cook a lot of Hungarian food. Goulash, roast duck, there's a lot of cabbage, vegetables. Everything is cooked from scratch. Thing is I only eat my parent's cooking when I visit them, once every 2-3 years. Their cooking seems to be a tad less healthy than what I would cook, but very very good.
Beef tongue in onion sauce or dill sauce - scrumptious! Also a kind of baked vegetable and meat stew called Djuve***269; (pronounced dyoovech), containing pork neck fillets, rice, potatoes, carrots, red peppers, aubergines (egg-plant), onions, garlic, tomatoes and tomato juice with seasoning, and black pepper. The whole thing is baked in the oven. Since I've been on a low-carb diet for the past 2 years, I have replaced the rice and 'taters with red kidney beans. Also, for added effect, you can grate some cheese on top and pop it back into the oven for 5 more minutes for the cheese to melt properly. Bon appetit!
My wee da was quite a good cook, we always all went round for Sunday dinner and whatever he made was always fantastic, loved my Sunday dinners.
