How important or noticeable is this?
I've seen monitors ranging from 1ms - 7ms or more.
How much of a difference would they be in comparison?
i also noticed the faster ones like 2ms say its grey to grey instead of black to black. some sort of marketing thing?

    Thanks

To find out how good a screen is, read reviews and user opinions.
The response time dictates how fast changes occur.
Black to Black has to go all the way to full White and back to Black again, this takes longer.
Grey to Grey doesnt have to change as much and is closer to the average use of an LCD and makes for better marketing numbers.
It is a legitimate measurement but doesnt tell the whole story.

Slower response time (ie higher numbers) make the screen smear for longer when changes occur.
This is commonly known as ghosting.

There are different types of LCD, TN, MVA, PVA and IPS and variations of them.
TN has the fastest reponse but the lowest colour quality, so while it may not be good for art production (for example), they are good for gaming.
Some TNs do look very good though, I'm using a very pleasing one (Dell 2209Wb)
