I own a GTX 670 and a friend of mine recently bought a 280X but after a couple of days he offered to swap his card to mine. I know the 280X is faster than the 670 but I wonder why he wants to swap cards. Any ideas or inputs why? Tia!
I'm using the 340.66 drivers and after searching in the drivers section i can't find any trace of the the 343.xx drivers except some threads that it's only available for linux atm.
Like i said, 280X is a great card, fast as 770 so definitely faster than 670. I dont know why he want to swap the cards but if you trust him go ahead and do it. No problems here with AMD drivers, atleast not on Tahiti cards.
Could be an issue with the card artifacting if it is a Asus R9 280x. I've been dealing with this issue since I bought my card back in November. Refer to this thread for detailed info. http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?43057-R9-280x-DirectCU-II-Top-Artifacts!!/page53 Personally I flashed my bio to the non TOP version and have some thermal gap fillers inbound to try and fix the problem. Also he could just want an nvidia card and the performance difference isn't too much.
Ok so performance is a given but how about video and in-game image quality is there any significant difference? Also, does the loss of Physix affect performance, experience and quality in some games? Tia!
The GTX670 is a smidgen faster than the GTX760, while the R9 280X is comparable to a GTX770 in performance, so yeah, you should see a bump in performance in certain games....assuming your CPU isn't bottleneck that is (with your 3570K at 4.5ghz, that's highly unlikely!). As for video image, there's no difference I can tell between AMD and nVidia.....I have a HD7970 (similar to the R9 280X) as well as a pair of GTX670 in SLi.....nope, unless my eyesight is failing me, I can't see any discernible difference between the two.
I went with the 280x over a 760 because it cost only 200 eur vs 270 for the 760. Then I noticed the performance for the 280x is higher by quite a margin. My best bud has 2 760's in his rig. I borrowed one to check it out against my older 270x card. His was faster but after I got the 280x it was alot faster than the 760. Guru3d has a few reviews on the 280x and you can see the difference. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/radeon_r7_260x_r9_270x_280x_review_benchmarks,14.html
