I'd appreciate some recommendations on upgrading a computer I use for my job; my boss is open to spending some cash on it. Dell Precision T7600 Xeon E5-2665 (single CPU, mobo can take two) 32GB DDR3 (1600mhz) (11,11,11,28 1T) Nvidia QUADRO 4000 1TB 7200 RPM SATA Win 7 Pro64 I use it for numerical simulation solving and not 3D visual creation (i.e. movies nor heavy CAD work). So it needs to be like a Prime95 crunching machine. Initial thoughts are an additional CPU and SSD. Also what's the difference between SERVER and DESKTOP memory because desktop memory has much better timings. Cheers
This is the basic difference between ECC memory and non-ECC memory. The small difference in timings\speed is generally outweighed for the added reliability for server\WS applications.
