Would a 2500k bottleneck a 980ti?

My 2500k is not over clocked and boosts in games with the usual 3.7. The motherboard wont allow me to over clock.

Considering the above turbo auto over clock would a 2500k bottle neck an MSI 980ti factory oc?

I know it can depend on the game like games like Supreme commander will always be bottlenecked at lower MHz as they only really use one core so it's not clear cut.

I'm playing games like Battleborn, Evolve, Batman Arkansas city, borderlands, skyrim and dirt showdown.

    Thanks all for any help!

ive had a 2500k with n Evga 980ti classified and had no problems but you should get 4.5ghz with reasonable cooling

Sadly I can't overclock it as I already mentioned. it's on standard 3.3 gigahertz and boosts via turbo up to the standard 3.7 gigahertz that's what it does by default.

Not sure about in your case but my 3570k at 4.2 was bottlenecking my 1070 on AC:Syndicate. Bumped it up to 4.4 and it took it down to 88-93% on all cores. Gonna try 4.5-4.6 tonight. Haven't noticed in any other games though.

    Yes it will..

Built a pc for a friend on the cheap, i5 3570s( turbos 3.4 on all cores) and a OCed 780ti.

It's a bottleneck for several games. Will not keep GPU usage at 99% even at 1440P. 1080P is even worse.

At your stock speeds it definitely will, even at my OC some new games have started maxing out my cpu and holding my gpu back a bit.

Still not a bad innings for a 2011 cpu

Overclock it further. 4.5ghz is even below average overclock for a Sandy.

Yes it will bottleneck your 2500k with 980ti.gtx 960 is more suitable for your i5 2500k

    Will 2500k bottleneck 980Ti on 4k, NO!

Will 2500k bottleneck 980Ti on 1440p, DEPENDS ON GAME ENGINE AND VISUAL SETTINGS. (YES for CPU bound games, NO for GPU bound games)

    Will 2500k bottleneck 980Ti on 1080, YES!

    -----------------------------------------------------

What your resolution, refresh rate and graphical settings?

If you monitor is 60hz you gonna be fine with 60fps. 2500K is more than enough to drive games @ 60 fps.

Once you want to break stable 90fps barrier, 2500k might not be enough, you will need stronger CPU.

Really depends on the game but as long as you OC, it should be good enough for 1080p with maxed settings:

Same goes for an i5's. Many users here on guru3d are still using their 2500k oc'd with 980ti's, 1070's, Fury X's. This is how Sandy stack vs Skylake in CPU heavy games :

Fallout 4 is arguably more CPU sensitive like Civilization and ARMA:

So every $ spent on a GPU instead of CPU is still better than a new CPU/MB/RAM unless the OP is hardcore on cpu bound games. He will get a better overall experience in many other games. Just try to OC the cpu to compensate.

Thanks for all the pictures that's a great help I get 60 frames per second constantly in Skyrim stock clocks.
