Stopped reading at "top-down shooter". Of all the ways to rejuvenate Duke, a top down shooter isnt it. No reboot should be approached from the top-down genre.
Last I knew, no, it wasn't. Again, Interceptor is assuming they have the right to make a Duke game and are just doing it. They believe they have this right because the investor company that owns them bought 3DRealms. Even though Gearbox now owns the Duke IP.
Either this is all a bluff and they've actually done very little work (like a couple hours per week) or this is the most retarded business idea I've heard for a while. So they eventually get the rights, great, they're ahead and go full into making it. They don't get the right, get told to shut down what they're doing, now they have to scrap it or remake everything to be a distinct product. Actually maybe that's the plan, make the game such that in the event they don't get the rights they can easily swap some stuff around and it's no longer a duke nukem game.
A friend of mine, TX (the guy behind eDuke32) got to play an early build of DN Reloaded. He said it was good that it didn't come out. While some aspects "looked" really good, even simple things like shooting the guns were almost completely broken. He said there was no way the game was anywhere near as far along as Interceptor was trying to convince people it was.
Well as a Duke fan I am excited about the new game but a top down shooter that will turn me off in an instant. I'll just stick to Duke Nukem 3d and Forever. Heck they should try duke as a 3rd person Shooter.
They have Though console exclusives.... "Time to Kill" was okay, "Land of the Babes" was awful. But, "Duke Nukem: Zero Hour" is simply awesome. It's a N64 game, but if you can get your hands on it it's great. With Duke, I think there's been enough crap surrounding the character in recent years. With DNF's "much loved" development and release and the lawsuit from 3DR, that getting dropped... then GBX suing Interceptor. I say let the character lie for a while. Then GBX will release the next official installment.
