    Hello,

I just upgraded my computer to an AMD FX-8350 on an Asus M5A99X Pro mobo, plus a new Sapphire Radeon R9 270 2GB video card. I saved my old Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 card so I can continue to run 3 monitors. Unfortunately, I can't get the HD 4870 to work. It is showing Error 43 in Device Manager (Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems).

The R9 270 is showing the driver version as 13.251.0.0 and is working fine. The HD 4870 driver version is showing as 8.970.100.1100. I've tried installing various versions of the Catalyst Drivers, but the only version of the Catalyst drivers that will recognize the R9 270 is the 13.12 version that I downloaded.

In CCC, under Hardware, it sees the R9 270 as the Primary Adapter, and it sees the HD 4870 as the Second Adapter but the Device ID is 0.

Is there any way I can get both of these cards working simultaneously with the proper drivers?

Tried installing the 4870 manually via device manager using an older driver that supports that card ?

If you try installing 2 different AMD drivers the last one you install will overwrite the first one if you use their installer

Id install 13.12 for the 270X normally with the installer - then extract the 4870 drivers manually and use device manager to point the 4870 to the extracted folder and install it that way

I've tried that a couple of ways with no success. I first tried keeping 13.12 and pointing Device Manager at the extracted drivers from 13.9 for the HD 4870. It would install those drivers, but then the R9 270 card would revert to "Standard VGA Adapter". Updating those drivers would cause the HD 4870 to have Code 43 again.

The next thing I did was remove CCC and run the cleaner to get rid of everything. I then didn't install CCC at all, instead installing the drivers from 13.9 for the HD 4870, and then installing the drivers from 13.12 for the R9 270. Same outcome: HD 4870 gets Code 43 but my R9 270 works fine.

Is there another way to have both drivers coexist simultaneously? The drivers appear to be right in Device Manager, it's just that the last driver installed makes the other device not function properly.

It might just not be possible to install 2 different AMD drivers to co-exist together without wiping the other one out if the cards need different drivers

I'd have thought that if the 13.9 drivers worked for the 4870, that the 270 would be happy with them too though

Maybe the cards are too far apart in age to work using the same drivers

Latest AMD Catalystâ„¢ Drivers for the AMD APU Series, AMD Radeon R9 200, R7 200 HD 7000, HD 6000, HD 5000 Series

4xxx series are not included in the drivers for the above cards

You may be right. Since the R9 270 is supposed to be able to support up to 4 monitors, I think I'll probably try to get my 3 monitors running off of that card by itself and give up on the HD 4870. Oh well, it was worth a shot. Thanks for your help!

Yea my 290 is currently running 3 x 1080p using 2 x DVI and 1 x HDMI, and I know you can add another 3 iirc to the display port/hub

EDIT - Yea you will be fine

    270
3 with DVI/HDMI, 4 using DisplayPort, 6 with an MST hub
