So I`m from Brazil and I`m gonna to NY at february

Do you think the GTX 980 8GB version will be avaiable till this date?

I read the rumors about this VGA sometime ago but nobody wrote anything more about it...

    What do you think guys?

    Tks

    Just asked because for example

If the GPU comes to US for about 600$ it comes to Brazil to at least 1400$ so it`s the chance to pay a fair price to a VGA when we have the chance to travel to USA

Considering February is 2 months away and Nvidia hasn't said a peep about a release date for a new variant of the 980 with 8 GB, I highly doubt you'll be able to find one. The last news I saw about anything coming from Nvidia was about a new Titan card based on Maxwell.

Overclockers.co.uk which is actively involved with a lot of vendors when it comes to designs of GPU's from vendors like Asus, MSI etc... talked with Nvidia recently and in Nvidias own words "We have no plans to introduce an 8GB version of the GTX 980".

For every 1 x 8GB card they sell, They could sell/make 2 x 4GB cards, I'll see if I can get the original statement from the OCUK forums when I get the time to search for it.

Yeah, Nvidia is probably planning to introduce 8gb with the Titan 2: The Return of the Overpriced. :wanker:

One thing is for sure, i won't upgrade till there is an accessible priced card with at least 6gb of vram, don't want to pay a lot for a card and be bitten in the ass later because of lack of memory again.

So in my case that play at 1440p if Nvidia do not launch the 980 8gb what is the best option?

Or Who knows Nvidia lanches some 980 TI with more memory, can be?

    Thanks guys

One GTX 980 can handle 1440p just fine with 4GB Vram. The whole 6GB Vram thing for SoM was kind of a farce. I can play SoM maxed out at 1440p with ultra textures without a problem.

I think 8gb nVidia cards will be enthusiast GM2XX full fat top of the line first with more reasonable priced 8gb coming later.

I tend to agree. They've done it once already, and I'm not sure amd's 390X release interferes with their plans. I'm just speculating, but I guess there'll be the Titan2 around the time the 390X will come, and sometime later the 980 with B1 chips and more vram arrives (or whatever it's going to be a 980Ti with 8GB I don't know).

Shouldn't those numbers be more like $1,000 and $2,200 ?

This. Always the same people, getting tiresome.
Inb4 'regular forum posters' bashing users wanting 8gb cards.

One 980 will run out of gpu power well before being able to utilize that much vram. If you want to buy 3+ 980 8gb than go for it. 2 980/970 4gb is perfect for 1440p.

The current generation of GPU's lack the power to even utilize that much ram. Once AMD/Nvidia release a refresh of the current generation then maybe adding more ram will make sense. This review of the 8GB R9 290X makes that pretty clear to see. You can see the performance either stays the same, or tanks as settings are changed. Too bad they don't show how much memory was being filled up, but it really doesn't matter as the GPU's lack the power to fill the memory.

I agree, current generation GPU's cannot handle more than 4GB of vRAM.

So get a 4GB one with some decent custom cooler and enjoy the ride
