Are non stick pans for people too stupid to use cooking oil? Or is it just more convenient than twist and pour?

Are non stick really non stick though? I see them more as less-stick, or even just easy clean more than non-stick.

I'm not much of a cooking person though so i may be wrong, but i still use oil with non stick pans, as unless the thing i'm cooking has some fat in it, things still stick to the pan.

Must be a time saver thing, kinda like the when you go to the toilet, do a number 2, go to wipe and discover it was a clean drop, pants up and away...A ninja s*** as my little cousin calls it.

lol (.)(.), couldn't of picked a worse comparison for cooking.

As i said easy cleaning is a big plus for me, if i had to go through a massive scrubbing afterwards then it affect the amount of things i wanted to cook.

"non-stick" pans are only non-stick until my sister cooks with them.....then everything sticks to them.

If you get a non-stick pan too hot, the teflon (non-stick) coating burns away. That teflon coating does make them much easier to clean as well, but you need to be careful about what you use to clean them. Abbrasive scrubbers can result in the teflon coating being removed as well, making them harder to clean as a result.

Like the opposite of being circumcised.

Non-stick pans are a must for "good" over easy eggs. Sure you can do them in cast or stainless but why bother when you can get a better end product with a nice coated pan? Also there are health benefits aswell. You don't need to use as much oil or any if you don't mind "frying" in a little water. Simply put, as a professional Chef for over 12 yrs I would never use anything but a coated pan for eggs if I have the choice.
The down side to teflon pans is if you own birds it will kill them as soon as the pans get hot. The release a gas that kills bird almost instantly. I have parrots at home so I haven't dared test it.

Looks nothing like photoshop to me, which part do you think looks off?

Cooking for those who just want to eat is about convenience, and non stick brings that, i hate cooking with a passion, but it has to be done if i don't want to live on convenience meals, so the easier it is the better.

sykozis, that would make sense, i'm quite impatient, so when i make breakfast it's substantially quicker, but also stickier, and usually less tasty than when the GF does, much to her annoyance.

The next time i go camping - lets say near a beach, I shall use a Teflon coated pan to cook my fish or sea cow in to help deal with mass of seagulls.

My wife's aunt/uncle have birds and so far they've survived just fine in an environment that includes cooking with non-stick pans....

One thing to remember about nonstick pans/cooking gear is that you should never use a scouring pad on them, if they ever start chipping or flaking or have deep scratches throw them away, the teflon or whatever they use is poison.

Should only use plastic spatula's on non-stick pans as they're less likely to scratch the coating than metal spatulas are.

I agree, as my mum use to beat me with a plastic spatula but when she use to use the metal one it was always winter clothes time as far as she was concerned, if only to hide the marks.
