Possibly solution for missing control panel menu and tray icon

Discussion in 'Videocards - NVIDIA GeForce Drivers Section' started by Deleted member 255716, Apr 14, 2017.

  1. Hi! After a long time searching solution for missing control panel menu and tray icon on the taskbar with the latest driver release, perhaps is a problem after updating the GeForce Experience.
    Suggestion:

    1) Uninstall with Ddu Uninstaller program the driver.
    2) Reboot the system and install the latest driver without GeForce Experience.
    3) Now install the latest version of GeForce Experience.

I don`t think many gurus use GeForce Experience.

  3. Of course , but if someone use it for redeem Nvidia games bundle or for Shadow Play may be useful :)

I installed GFE v3.5.0.70, NVIDIA control panel menu and tray icon weren't missing, but I personally don't like tray icon so I unchecked.

TL;DR no issue, but FYI, I installed GFE 3-4 times due to the automatic scan location (backup games)

    I encountered this.
I have 3 HDMI devices connected to my gfx card (via adapters and direct), display, projector and AV amp.
With all 3 cloned, when I enable DSR I lose the ability to open NVidia control Panel, nothing happens.
    And DSR doesnt work.

Not being able to open control panel to fix it was annoying.
I either use Win+P to select a dual display config or use the default Windows method to change res/display.
Then go back in to NVidia control panel to set it up.

As long as I have a max of 2 displays cloned enabling DSR is not a problem.
ie 2 cloned, 1 extended is ok.
This works for me because 1 HDMI out is only for audio, I stick the extended screen diagonally top left so my mouse doesnt disappear off the edge.

The same happened with my previous 980ti and 980 cards, its not something new.
It has never been fixed in any driver release.

ps GFE is not installed, never has been.

pps interesting that if I install the 3D components, when this problem occurs with DSR and 3 cloned screens, control panel will open but only has the 3D options.
Everything else is simply not there.

  6. Which version and build of Windows 10 do you have?
Maybe that is a bug of 1080 Ti with this driver release

Ah, so I'm not the only one with this problem. I find that restarting Windows (a proper restart) fixes the issue temporarily. It might be a conflict with the Fast Startup mechanism of Windows.

this issue is caused by the Display container service getting stuck and only loading a single instance, end tasking it will cause it to restart correctly and spawn the two processes it should have loaded.

it isn't, since it occurs on win7 as well.

  10. No, but I'll try it waiting the next Whq driver at the end of this month

I just right click the desktop and open it from the context menu.

  12. Not for me! Maybe because we have a different graphic card...

Odd you don't see that. I've been accessing the NVCP though the desktop context menu for years now. At least since my GTX 260...

I install it solely for the convenient driver update notifications. (Yeah, I know, it's like using a frag grenade to kill a fly, but...)

    Does absolutely nothing.
Taken in context of my above posts.
