Right, anyone who can point me towards the latest version of ICH10R driver for the intel sata 2 controller?

Trying to determine whether to use the Marvell sata 3 or the intel sata 2 port, and even though people say the Intel ICH10R controller is abit faster then the marvell controller I have found it to be the oposite, and therfore thought I'd might need the latest intel driver wich I cannot find anywhere.

I got a X58 Gigabyte board, well all my info is to the left.

I got myself completly lost in Intel download center so figured I needed some help on this

This is a win8 beta driver for the ICH10R right?

I just tested the official WHQL ICH10R ( 9.3.0.1019 ) and saw only minor diffrences to the AHCI windows vanilla driver (msupdate?) mostly in ATTO at the lower tables 0.5 - 16 kb blocks.

The maximum speed is still around 250 write and 290 read wich is quite abit lower then it was on sata 3 connector and crappy marvell controller.

People say the Intel Sata2 ICH10R controller is superior but I'm not seeing it.

Gonna test the new Win 8 RST beta driver aswell.

Right, tested the Win 8 RST beta driver, and I can say it is by far the fastest out of the Intel Sata2 controller drivers, hands down.

The maxium linear reads in ATTO have improved in the 0.5 to the 8.0 table quite abit aswell, above that not much have changed.

Having maximum reads of 268 mb/s write and 286 mb/s read wich is far from the maximum reads I got off the sata3 port using the latest Marvell (9128) controller wich topped out at around 290 mb/s write 400 mb/s read, wich still is weak compared to what others get from proper Sata 3 controllers. ( they having 500 read 500 write on this ssd basically ).

The reads out of AS SSD is the ones that improved the most though, wich also is from my understanding tests the real world performance better then Atto wich is just a bench.

Went from 60ish mb/s write in 4k block to 95 mb/s in 4k blocks so thats a big improvement right there, the rest where a tiny bit faster ( 2-3 mb/s here and there wich I guess fall within margin of error ).

Yeah it is a Win 8 beta driver, but it is also for Windows 7 as Microsoft hasn't changed that particular driver model.

Have you noticed any disadvantages by using this beta driver? I was wondering if it's worth updating mine.

I had the same issue using sata 3(marvel) with 2X corsair f3 in raid 0.

I maxed out at 450 read and 250 write.

When i moved to a REAL raid card (acera 1213-4i)and 4X corsair f3 I get 2880 and 1770 read/write with kaspersky antivirus and firewall up!

The Marvel controller just sucks big time. For comparison, my three Samsung F3 1TB HDD's get 400-450 mb/s sequential read and write speeds. In almost every case it's better to use Intel's SATA2 controller instead of Marvell. PCI-E 1x isn't quite enough for SATA 6 Gb/s and Marvell controller itself isn't the best. You will get better IOPS from using Intel's SATA2 controller.
