Just checking I'm correct here, this card uses 1 PCI-E lane for the Marvell chip - 5Gbps and so is never going to do full SATA3 speeds.

I know the only way I'm going to get true SATA3 speeds is with a new board or a better card (LSI 9211-4i or something similar)
And I'm waiting with this rig for another year (well I'm going to stick a GTX 970 in it but that's it!) or so until X99 becomes slightly more affordable

With that in mind, do these look about right for an 256GB MX100 on this card?
The write performance is quite a bit better than my M4 128GB

If so is it worth the £100 or so to get the full SATA3 speeds, or would I only really see the difference in benchmarks?

The real big difference you will notice are the IOPS and the access time of the SSD. The IOPS and the access time are not affected by Sata Speed. The transfer speeds don't have a big impact on real world usage. So I would save the money for your next hardware upgrade.
