nvidia demos at 1 fps??

I just downloaded a bunch of the nvidia demos (adrianne, froggy, human head, etc) and on my 4200 with a BFG 8800 GT OC, I get about 1-2 fps. I'm using the latest stable drivers, and getting expected results in 3dmark0x.

What do you need for these demos to run smoothly?

Lol the human head demo totally owns any of the 8x series 256bit cards. I have a 9800gtx, 2 8800gtx 768, 1 8800gts 640 stomps the 9800gtx running this demo. I think it's simply because of the lowly 256bit bus. Btw my 9800gtx won't even run the human head demo at 1920x1200 with 4aa/16af! The 8800gts 640 gets around 8fps

 

with my current system i run the head demo with 1680x1050 and supersample multiplier 1.5 and with default settings in nvidia control panel i get around 4-8 fps
same settings with supersample multiplier to 1.0 i get around 20 fps
And my system isn't the best. I though my cpu and ram bottlenecked my card. in a few days i get my new system and test it again.

 

the solution of cpu and of ram is NOT help be faster for supersample!! supersample enabled may drop to low fps because your 8800gt is bit power or is out of memory (for accelerate) for help sharing memory system (non-accelerate).

 

The demos are meant for DX10, I think. Which makes XP unable to run them properly.

 

I ran head human demo:
-800x600 w/o SS:
default camera - 24 fps
w/o head* - 53 fps

-1280x960 w/o SS:
default camera - 20 fps
w/o head* - 49 fps

-1280x960 w/ SS 1.5:
default camera - 16 fps
w/o head* - 44 fps

-1680x1050 w/o SS:
default camera - 19 fps
w/o head* - 45 fps

-1680x1050 w/ SS 1.5:
default camera - 3 (after wireframe, 1-4 fps (1..2..3..4..1... lolol))
w/o head* - 37 fps

-2048x1536 w/o SS:
default camera - 15
w/o head* - 39 fps

* warning: only you have far to head.

if you buy more one 8800gts w/ 640mb to sli or upgrade to 8800gt w/ 1gb by more these memory, you will run without drop fps only in supersample enabled! this is solution!! but you buy hard only for sli.

 

I bet those scores are for DX10 (VIsta).

 

this demo isn't dx but it's opengl! lol I run this demo in vista x64.

default camera - 32 fps
w/o head - 70 fps

-1280x960 w/o SS:
default camera - 26 fps

-1280x960 w/ SS 1.5:
default camera - 21 fps

-1680x1050 w/o SS:
default camera - 24 fps

-1680x1050 w/ SS 1.5:
default camera - 18 fps -> that solution is TRUE!!!!!

-2048x1536 w/o SS:
default camera - 18 fps

 

No the Human Head Demo can run in DX9 which means it can run in XP. The water fall demo was the only DX10 demo I think.

There was a smoke demo, and a frog demo ALL able to run in DX9.

 

after 9800 GT 1GB - very good upgrade (due to nvidia OptiX (CUDA ray-traced) slow and to without DX11/SM 5.0/Tessellation Hardware) to GTX480. :bigsmile:

I got to increase greatly performance:
-800x600 w/o SS:
default camera - 116 fps
w/o head - 174 fps

-1280x960 w/o SS:
default camera - 99 fps

-1280x960 w/ SS 1.5:
default camera - 84 fps

-1680x1050 w/o SS (VRAM usage - 661 MB):
default camera - 92 fps

-1680x1050 w/ SS 1.5 (VRAM usage - 775 MB):
default camera - 75 fps

-1680x1050 w/ SS 2.0 (VRAM usage - 939 MB):
default camera - 61 fps

-2048x1536 w/o SS (VRAM usage - 744 MB):
default camera - 72 fps (it is 4x faster than 9800GT)

-2048x1536 w/ SS 1.5 (VRAM usage - 954 MB):
default camera - 56 fps

but I can't run since 1600x1200/1920x1080 w/ SS 2.0 due to runtime C++ error - I don't know why but maybe due to memory VRAM usage is "buggy".

 

Out of curosity I just tried the human head demo and using fraps I was pegging a solid steady 60FPS 1680x1050 all the way through.

now I know why C+ error running XP because XP is "bug" or my mboard may be "bad" (very probably), like TrackMania series (games) but I tried 2048x1536@SS 2.0 running win 7 x64 and I can run it!! lool

-2048x1536 w/ SS 2.0 (VRAM usage - 1359 MB):
default camera - 41 fps

 

Not due to bad mboard (old ASUS M4N82 Deluxe) nor to VRAM issue but yes due to XP bugged.

I changed CPU from AMD X6 1055T to Intel i5-2500K but I got same performance because GPU got totally bottlenecked.

 

DX9 does NOT mean OpenGL! but yes OpenGL because DX9.0c is shader model 3.0 only! "Adrianne", "Froggy", "Human Head" and "Smoke" demos use SM 4.0 (between OpenGL 2.x and 3.x). lool


New GTX 580 3GB (after GTX 480 died - RMA replaced to GTX 670 but I'm not interested 670 due to weak GPGPU performance)

New EVGA GTX 780 Ti Classified

-800x600 w/o SS running XP x86 SP3:
default camera - 366 fps

This card@OC version 1020MHz core-stock is 2.52x faster than my old GTX 580@reference-stock!

 

Same videocard runinng Windows 8.1 x64 (on XP x86, still no run due to runtime C++ error):

-2048x1536 w/ SS 2.0:
default camera - 117 fps

It's 2.85x faster than GTX 480 (sorry, not test GTX 580).
