Should I buy GTX 1080 or stick to 980 Ti SLI?

    So a 6700K and 2666MHz DDR4 isnt enough?
And you mean that if you get 60fps single GPU you now get 96fps in SLI? (60 x 1,6)

Even @ 2.4ghz that card won't beat two 980ti. It simply does not have enough power. DX12 tho where SLI is not exactly hot topic all one needs is a bit oc'd 1080 to beat that system now.

I get like 45 to 50 more fps when i sli witcher 3 compared to single gpu, gpu useage is also almost 100% both gpu,s.

Maybe cause of x99 doing better gpu useage when in sli i dont know.
But i know this my friend, i never go single gpu again ever, the performance is almost double with sli compared to single gpu set-up in my experience.

Remember that DX12 support will improve for multi-cards.

Even UWP was talking about adding it soon...

I am hopeful for that. But it is up to the devs.

It is. It won't be added into already released titles - but for the future, and UWP games of the future - it's certainly something to hope for.

Where are we getting that the 1080 is faster than 980ti sli from?

Yes may be netherwind have CPU limitation, I've i7 5820k stock but see no cpu limitation that's why getting over 100fps in BF-HL

What I feel dual 980 Ti is way faster than GTX 1080, may be because of x99 combination is good with SLI. I get over 70fps in every game @ 4k resolution with maxed out every video setting with 8xMSAA & FXAA. On single card even GTX 1080 gets on its knees when you enable 8xMSAA or FXAA but on SLI you won't feel any degradation even at 2160p resolution :) All Hail to SLI with X99 :)

Like I said, you can't get over 100% scaling with SLI. You'd be lucky to get 90%, much less 100%..

You don't know the exact area and methodology that Hilbert used to benchmark BFHL. Also, he was using reference clocked GTX 980 Ti, whilst you're using the highest stock clocked 980 Ti on the market.

It doesn't need to beat it. It just needs to come close enough, because a single card is always going to have the edge when it comes to efficiency, usage and most importantly, frame time variance, which is actually more important than frames per second..

Ive 980ti sc sli under custom loop.I think single 1080 make no boost (naturally) and i dont think i "need" to buy a 1080sli, i play in 1440p with gsync.I want to see a 1080ti power but...for me 1080 series is for vr potentially support...

Good for you but I will take my 3 980's playing GTA5 maxed out at true 4K at 120 fps over your single card any day.

Oh and another thread F'd up because kids like to post overly large screenshots.

@Teisco Kids are sharing their benchmark results bro sooo no harm :p BTW 980 TI SLI will kill your 3x980s all the way with ease :)

At 1440p? The X99 platform seems better at SLI than Z170A in that case.

I thought the same at the beginning when I had 970SLI but then support in games got worse and worse (no support on launch, total lack of support in some cases). Then I gave it another chance with 980Ti SLI but man was I disappointed, high temps, loud noise and not the performance I expected. Sure, 980Ti SLI made some games fly (like SW:Battlefront) but FC Primal gained like 10 fps (67 to 82)and Witcher only 25fps (70-100), The Division gained some 25 (from 75-100). Overall not exactly worth the price so to speak.

It's tempting to give it one last chance with the Founders cards since i've not had blower style cards since 5850CFX. I think it's the way to go (unless AIO).

Cool, if you think two 980ti's will trounce my three 980's than I maybe should think of selling them and going with two 1080's. Food for thought for sure. But remember, I run everything at true 4k (not dsr).

I get around 80-90% scaling in witcher 3 and 99% in most dice engine games.

Thanks, not sure about scaling as I am not really understanding it but looking at the power, temp and ram usage graphs in Afterburner during Skyrim or GTA5 or other demanding game I see all cards hitting the same power curve and same ram usage and same GPU usage so they are all working similarly.

The only difference is temp because the top one always tops out at 70 or a bit more while the other two are bit cooler, bottom one being the coolest.

Still tempting to go for the 1080 double and make someone a hell of a deal on my 980 trio.
