Are You Going To Purchase a 4K Monitor?

We're conducting a poll to learn how many of you are going to purchase a 4K monitor in the near future. We'd be grateful if you could you post your thoughts about 4K monitors as well, listing the Pros & Cons for whether you are planning to buy one or not. Thanks.

Most if not all gamers will own one eventually. I'm just waiting for a non TN one, with high refresh rates. No point going from 120hz PLS to a TN panel imo.

 

Maybe sometime in the future, as of now not enough graphical horsepower and funds to do so.

 

More time frames would have been valuable. I believe adding in a 6 month and one year time frames might evoke different responses. I believe many may be considering it but the technology, particularly the interface between the GPU and the display, needs improvement. Most likely in the next year, I will be going 4K.

 

Not really interested as of now. Maybe after 5 years or whenever my current TV dies. (They die fast these days)

 

I wish I could have choose more than one answer. I am fine with my current monitor, 1920x1080 27inch, I feel my single R290 would not be enough for games on ultra/high settings on a 4k. But mainly its the money.

When gpu like GTX760 will exist in 4k, then we look at it. and oh yeah it must have 120hz with awesome tn panel or IPS, Gsync and other stuff that the Aliens will bring.

 

I'm not planning on buying 4k anything. HD is good enough for me. To me, it's mostly marketing hype like megapixels in a camera. I still use a 3.2 camera and it's perfectly fine for what I use it for. I don't think there is any reason at all for more than 5 unless you're going to be printing poster size things. I feel the same about 4k vs HD. It's just not necessary.

 

The hype, the price and the actual product are not consistent with each other... so I'd rather wait...

 

I expect more people to move to 1440p/1600p before 4K really catches on, it seems a lot of companies are trying to jump past that step. The fact is, there isn't any hardware out there that's good enough to run 4K at decent speeds, and that's assuming there was a good quality (non TN) 4K monitor capable of at least 120hz. The only option is 3-4 way GPU setups, which are notoriously problematic.

Currently 1440p. Then it may be 3440x1440 (21:9). Then 4k maybe 2 or 3 years later when it should have reached maturity.

 

Probably when its 120hz IPS atleast! GSYNC would be a nice bonus. There is no reason to go 4k atm as im quiter happy with IPS at 100hz 24/7.

 

this, in an ideal world, id like it to be 21:9, curved, 120Hz PLS or VA.
I would buy one tomorrow if that existed as im well overdue a new main monitor, my 10 year old Samsung 1680x1050 TN panel doesnt cut it anymore.

 

Not for gaming or even movies. For gaming it would require too much from single card configurations and I don't consider it worth the expense just for a resolution bump when 1080p with decent AA or downsampling does the job. For movies, again, 1080p is good enough and I can't be bothered to get into another cycle of "upgrading" my collection.

For work it is a good option but in my case, I wouldn't really need a powerful graphics card for that.

If you guys can figure out a single GPU card which can drive that kind of resolution at 60fps, I'd consider it.

 

I will play @ 1080p (+ extra downsample) until there is one gpu that's strong enough to drive all games now and in the future above 60fps+

Current high end gpus are just strong enough to power older games, nvm future U4E and all them new next gen engines, those will cripple everything even @ 1080p & 1440p, nvm @ 2160p.

 

Sad thing is the rate GPUs are going it will be 4-5 years before a single card (single GPU card)can handle a 4k at 60fps minimum.

 

Even that's being optimistic imo.

 

Yes it is, I am hoping some great cards come out that are 30-40% better than the previous ones. But last two years the jumps have been small.
