According to this article, putting an SSD into AHCI mode should provide a significant speed boost. BUT--if you have a PCIe SSD, like Ocz's Revodrive 3 X2, leave it in IDE mode, since there won't be any speed improvement with AHCI, and you risk not being able to reenter the BIOS without a BIOS reset.
