    Hi all,
I wanted to know if upgrading from r9 290 4 gb to rx 480 8gb will be worth it?

Currently i can almost run all games on ULTRA except for may be two or three options on HIGH and have fps dips here and there. i was wondering if rx 480 will be of help there

    My other specs are

    i5 4690K @ 4.4ghz
    16 GB RAM
    r9 290 4gb
    I am gaming on 1080p 60hz

No, doesn't worth the trouble if you looking for upgrade to something more powerful than current amd gpus you can hop in the hype train with us and wait for Vega otherwise if you're impatience look for 1070GTX...

but wouldnt vega series be more like 1070gtx, and as far as i know 1070 is overkill for 1080p 60hz gaming

I was going to ask a similar question.

My current card doesn't suck, but I would like to move up a bit without spending over $400

480 8GB seems plausible, and under $400, but maybe not worth switching yet.

Upgrade options from a 290 would be a Fury, 980 ti or 1070

Yeah. Gonna wait a month or two. Like I said, this card doesnt suck. Its just not quite what I want it to be, and I dont want to spend 500+

You can find Fiji cards for under $400 if you look.

from what i see that 480 is like a 290x. so with your 290 you ain't that far off and the
    upgrade is just wasting money.

Newegg has a Sapphire Fury for about $300. I was temped, but will wait and see what Vega offers. I like the 480, I just do not see it as much of an upgrade from a 290.

I trying to hold out to see what Zen offers as well.

500+ was a 'crazy maximum' Wife death aggro zone.

Gonna wait. Seems like the majority opinion.

I agree, from 290 you should look for 1070 or better, I wouldn't even switch to Fury X at this point, perhaps Vega.

At this point you should probably keep that 290 for now and wait for Vega.

    ok, thanks guys.

Switching to 1070 for 1080p gaming is definately an overkill.. so lets see

what if i can sell off 290 for 250$ and buy rx 480 for just another 150bucks.

with additional 4gb VRAM.... what you guys think if that is worth it?

1070 for 1080p is most definitely not overkill. It has good headroom.

    Wait for Vega or:
    Cheapest -> Pick XFX GTR 480 8GB ~260USD
Cheap and Great Performance up to 4k -> Fury TriXX or Nitro ~300USD
Best Bang for buck, besides if you Pick Fury you can Play with it until something new comes up -> Then Sell it and Upgrade
