For those trying to unlock extended clocks, stop using afterburner.

Use Asus GPU tweak, the newest one on their download site (for any of their 7970s). Install, reboot, click on settings and enable "advanced' mode. click on extend overclocking range. Reboot again.

From here, once your clocks are extended you can uninstall asus gpu tweak and use the overclocking software of your choice. You can use afterburner if you wish, after gpu tweak extends your clocks.

THIS SOFTWARE DOES NOT NEED THOSE 2 FILES to extend clocks, I hope the author of afterburner follows suit. What gives? Asus can do it without those files and with a clean 12.2/12.4 install, why can't afterburner.?

I disagree. I have had no such issues.

My guess is your UOC is still enabled...

Then could u explain why Trixx is showing 0mhz clocks?

Yeah I know, I imagine they access the GPU clocks in the same way is wat I'm getting at..

According to Unwinder all those apps use the same library...

i heard him say that as well, but why would trixx report zero clocks?

at one point when i was screwing with UOC in AB it was reporting zero clocks, as well as in CCC.

i guess im not sure what you are point out here..

Because I placed the .dll file in my AB folder, not System32 or Wow64. It means Trixx also needs that file.

My point was that if the asus tweaker is working then maybe this guy hasn't uninstalled his drivers properly or something...there's prob a reason for it.

    ah...gotcha....

everyone can avoid all this non-sense by just using racerx once, and keep the .reg file it creates handy for reinstalls....

I now fail to understand the difference between -xcl and UOC. They both seem to do exactly the same thing.

thye do but, enitrly different methods, and UOC breaks ULPS.

one uses the Official registry interface for OC, the other uses an old programming hole that re-writes the powerplay tables...

    from unwinder:

"/XCL eXtends Clock Limits for official AMD overclocking APIs. Which means that it also extends clock limits for CCC or any other other vendor specific tool using official overclocking interfaces provided by AMD. Considering that it is using official AMD overclocking interface, it is compatible with ULPS. This method is equal to flashing new VGA BIOS with extended Overdrive clock limits.
However, this method uses hidded VGA BIOS emulation debug feature of Catalyst driver. Once AMD decide to remove it from driver, it will stop working. It is also necessary to re-extend clock limit after driver re-installation because VGA bios emulator resides in Catalyst registry entries.

Unofficial overclocking uses old undocumented "hole" in AMD driver, which allows to re-program PowerPlay table and bypass Overdrive clock limits. AMD used this unofficial interface in the past for their internal AMDGPUClockTool. Currently the "hole" is not supported by AMD in any way, it is incompatible with some AMDs own power saving technologies (ULPS), it has many side effects due to "nice" AMD programming skills (such as resetting fan speed and powertune to defaults, etc, etc)."

I'm having an odd problem that I've not read in this post. I'm trying to install these drivers on Windows 7 64 bit and I keep getting this error when I install:

    Error messages
    Driver Install: the installation failed

When I try and update the drivers using device manager I get this error:

Anyone have any ideas? I've already used atimon and uninstalled CCC and drivers twice. I also used the uninstall manager and removed it that way then used atimon to uninstall the rest but I still get this error. I know there must be one simple step that I'm missing but I haven't figured it out yet.

    Thanks

I remember THAT message..... I used to get that with my HD4850 every time I used Driver Sweeper......followed by Windows not detecting my graphics card anymore...lol. Maybe I'll hold onto my 560Ti for a bit to see if that returns.....lol

Regardless of what Unwinder said UOC does not break ULPS nor does it break PowerPlay, at least on my card anyway..
The last 6 or 7 builds of AB I 've used UOC and not once has it caused a problem with my clock settings.

That's why I can't see what the difference is between the xcl and uoc.

Looks like somebody's been playing around in the File Repository. That's naughty.

Reboot and let the vga driver install then install the new ATI driver through device manager.

If it still gives you that error you might need to replace an .inf file in repository which is pretty simple.

Honestly, i have no way of telling if ulps is broken or not. Im taking unwinder at his word. Since he works with these interfaces on a daily basis, i have to assume he knows what hes talking about.

As far as UOC goes, i was having sticky clock issues, i did fix it eventually. but finally abandoned it for xlc mode as its less of an annoyance. UOC would randomly reset my overdrive without telling me. And now that AMD has removed the interface, i see no use for it anymore.

With /xlc, i dont really have to run AB at all, except i need to cusom fan profile.
