Cool awesome! - 3D stereo glasses 1st time user - 09-03-2003, 22:07 | posts: 102 | Location: UK (Bangor - Telford - London)

Bought a used Asus v8200 Deluxe (Geforce3) complete with glasses a few weeks ago for my 2nd PC and just got around to trying them. UT2003 - what can I say!

I have the det 44.03 drivers installed so I downloaded and installed the 44.03 stereo control panel. As I use Windows XP, I then ran NVRT to force 120hz refresh rate (60hz per eye) at 800*600, which was the best resolution/refresh combination attainable with my 17" CTX Diamondtron monitor.
I then simply altered the monitor size paramter and selected "UT2003" from the game list in the stereo driver options, and played a few games at 800*600. It was really good - took a short while to get used to it, but it was very impressive.

Then I discovered the stereo seperation slider in the driver options , default 30%, i.e. towards "beginner" - I set it to 75% and relaunched UT2003. The difference was amazing, full on 3d, although my friend had to leave it after playing for just a few seconds!

Must say I'm very impressed, but would appreciate any tips on improving the effect/performace, for example when playing do you have the cross-hair in 3d or not?

Cheers.

edit - my only criticism is the shape of the Asus glasses - they just keep sliding down and off my nose . I'm gonna have to either get clever and wrap the cable around my head each time I use them or get elastic on their ass.

Hud and crosshair are usually rendered in 2d, so will always appear as 2, and u will have to shoot between them. There is no fix for most games unfortunately.

You can increase the seperation and cnvergeance from in game by using the hotkeys, look them up in the control pannel.

Have fun :-)

i have the e-d 3d glasses and man i drool everytime i play games like serious sam se, ut2003, etc... unfortunately, like u, the crosshair was the only drawback so i disabled it in the game options and enjoyed playing in full 3d. tho, some games don't have that option to disable the crosshair .
