Yah, I know the 870/880 aren't technically refreshes but in terms of performance, I think that is exactly what they will be.

My guess is that the cards heralding a significant performance increase are going to come in early 2015.

    /waiting ;)

He'd have a hard time finding proof considering NVidia's own engineers have stated that GK104 was intended to be used for GTX680 from the beginning of it's development.

As for AMD, HD7970 was the "high-end" card. This kid is just all too willing to believe every unfounded rumor that gets posted on the internet....cuz we all know the internet never lies.

You are the kid here, calling others names .. And 7970 was more high end then GK104 ever was, higher direct compute and higher ram bandwidth made it.

    Exactly.

All it says is that desktop chip in Q3 2015 will be using 20nm.. Nothing else about desktop gpus.

Oh boy. Listen I get that English is obviously not your first language and that most people don't understand the difference between a fiscal year and an actual year -- but when that's the case you should refrain from arguing against people who do. It's extremely frustrating/pointless/time consuming arguing semantics.

Q3 2015 speaks of the fiscal year. For example, Nvidia just recently released it's Q2 2015 report.

    http://nvidianews.nvidia.com/News/NVIDIA-Financial-Results-for-Second-Quarter-Fiscal-2015-b88.aspx

Nvidia is currently in it's Q3 2015 Fiscal year and will release a report at the end of that. Probably in October 2014. The article states that they will want to have info on new cards out by then to benefit the report.

    Definition of fiscal year:

If that were true, do you think NV would openly admit that they charged high-end prices for a midrange card? Not likely. Ive seen rumors both ways, nobody knows for sure.

Nvm. Pointless, arguing with a wall.

Anyway, I want something that's an upgrade to my 690. I'd take 30% on a single card if it brought more RAM. Looks like this isn't what I want.

    I'm tired of SLI woes.

I'm similarly fed up with the lack of proper SLI support lately and would like a powerful single GPU solution.

Sadly, I think that for gaming beyond 1080P (Full details/AA), SLI is going to be a necessary evil for the time being (Hopefully King Maxwell will get us to 1600P on one card - even that is probably a stretch but let's hope).

I like SLI (when it works it's awesome) but 4K taught me that when you don't have a profile, you aren't playing :(

What is 512 bit? not the 680 or the 7970.

Surprised the "we expected more from amd" by nvidia wasnt linked or the 680 will be $299 link.

    Correct the HD 7970's were 3/6 GB 384bit GDDR5.

I had to read this twice, you having a laugh mate?

Regardless, it'll be interesting to see how the upcoming 870 really performs.

I know you are on 4K, but 2K and SLI work great. I've had a good time with it.

I've have a great time with it as well (and I've been using it since the Voodoo2 days when it was Scan Line Interleave :D ).

As I mentioned in another thread and in reply to you, SLI is great when there is a profile and the added bonus @ 1080P is that Titans and 780s can handle that resolution without SLI (so it's not such a big deal if you have to wait months for a profile as has been the case lately)

At 4K, SLI is not optional (If Nvidia would get their profiles out a little more expeditiously, that would be a great marketing slogan ;) ).

That's how I know the 880 is going to be a /yawn card, the price is a dead give away when dealing with Nvidia.

The real AAA card will likely be $1000/£1000 (Bizarro currency parity at work ;) )

    Nope, just more BS statements.

Considering all the hype, I really expected more from AMD when the 7970 launched but I also said that when it launched. None of the launches over the last 2 years has really excited me. Unfortunately, all the rumors and hype seem to bring out the clueless.
