if you read the nets about the 880 it seems like the 750ti, it seems very cool as the stock cooler looks very crap and it has very little power draw too, and yet it has uber power with 3200 Maxwell cores.

And according to the early leaks that's not even the macdaddy Maxwell die. you guys can cheer for the 880. I'm rooting for the 980 the way things look. However the R9 390X may force Nvidia's hand.

It better, AMD did a great job lately with their GPU department, too bad they are so far behind at CPUs. The days of AMD vs. Intel and nvidia vs. ATi were great!

I don't know man. Nvidia had to increase the die size of GM107 over GK107 by 25% to increase performance by 20%. The cost per transistor on 20nm is increased and GM107 has 43% more transistors.

Even at the scale shown here this card would probably launch at $750. If this is indeed a "half scale" Maxwell card, a theoretical GM110 would be like $1500. These cards aren't going to get cheaper.

If that's true the R9 390X will be $700-800 at launch too.

As if the price/performance ratio isn't bad enough, but I wouldn't be surprised if the prices will go up by a good bit with the next generation. :bang:

I can see tj's point completely but then dont begrudge the guys on here who upgrade etc.

For me as am only playing a few games like ESO and WOT my 580 is still doing fine with AA @1920x1200 and the way I see it is I dont trust AMD yet and think the mantle thing is a bit of a con and Nvidia are charging £100 too much.

I could say feck it and get one tomorrow but unless I do the monitor upgrade I really dont need the extra beef.

Quite surprised that elder scrools looks great and still runs ok. However am yet to do bits with lots of other players like the pvp.

Have a feeling my fps might tank to the low 20's then new gpu's cant come quick enough...:)

so my conc is @1920x1200 and something like a 580 it's def upgrade time but you can still just about survive. (all depends on the level of quality you want and the amount/type of games you are playing.)

(need to ask a few gurus re their perf @2046 res and eso in pvp).

With my current setup, upgrade to 880 wouldn't be that great. Games already run fine at acceptable details. I had to crank down settings in BF4 in order to get pretty much constant 60fps, but it still looks good.

If I had 4k or >60Hz screen, I might consider such card (or next Radeon). I'd probably have to get new CPU too, and whole rest of the computer along with it.

btw, is multi-gpu still viable? I can understand it for 4k, but for 120Hz+ @ FullHD? Wouldn't added jitter make it unbearable? I had 2x 280x in December, and BF4 experience was bad. Perhaps it improved a bit. I'm asking as top line cards are getting more and more expensive, and while I'm satisfied with my last purchase (opted for top single card to replace old SLI), I'm not sure if I'd want to get 1 or 2 cards in the future.

TBH 680 is one of the best card i ever seen despite being crippled. 680 easily run bf4 with ultra and 2xaa around 60fps, what i do with all cards in bf games since BF3, is turn effects to high from ultra. it reduce wierd fps drops when there are lot of smoke and stuff like that.

As for 880, we may see something awesome or something that will make us want the real maxwell more

680 and 770 are not crippled in any way shape or form. They are full gk104 and no better gk104 will ever be released.

true. i meant crippled vs GK110 aka 256 vs 384, though high clock speed reduce that. i think 880 can pop up around mid july or August.

SLI has been significantly improved since I last used it, which was a while ago (8800GTX's). But yeah, they have built in frame metering hardware and stuff so gone are the days of annoying microstutter. I mean it still kinda exists but it's under perceptible limits. I also think Nvidia has gotten to the point where they can get pretty decent scaling out of every game. I haven't really run into many issues with it aside from my initial red screen issues (690 problem that has since been fixed).

With my brief time owning a Asus 690@1176Mhz(damn I miss that card, it felt so special), I never had any issues with it and it was a great experience and I played mostly AA/AAA titles.

The Ti has also that IT factor but not like the dual-cards. ;)

With 7Ghz VRAM there really is no memory bandwidth bottleneck in the GK104 the 680 was a bit crippled with the reference 6Ghz memory clock.

So whats the score with the 880 according to rumours? Do we get the fat one first or second like GK110?
