Mind you that some users are still on LGA 775 boards and CPUs and need an upgrade badly.

A 4Ghz stock clock would really make my 920 feel old :O I will still wait for Skylake though, I want that DDR4 :D

It´s a good move to stamp 4.4ghz for the noobs and non overclokers, but if it fails to overclock to at least 5ghz there´s going to be a lot of angry people. Right?

Well Intel didn't claim it will hit 5GHz on air, that was only Expreview thinking out loud:D

In other words another PR from China :nerd:

Overclockers are the minority out there, There just not the minority on Enthusiasts forums like this. Alot people fail realize this or accept that.

Very well put. I could not have said it better. The Turbo boost clock would be good enough for the majority of users who don't overclock and do not understand how or too afraid to try it.

920 is shot down hard even by an Ivy Bridge, if you value performance you should look at upgrading to one of these new Haswell refresh chips.

I sure it has been but so many of reviewer REFUSE to put 1st gem i7/i5 in there reviews of new cpu.

One reason why I still havent upgraded or see the point in it cause the reviews just make me question where i should.

All games I play and have still play 60fps stable. Other then Swtor but Swtor engine is piss poor at best, and I not gona upgrade my pc just for swtor, When I know people with current i7 and same gpu as me have the same issue i have.

I DEMAND REVIEWER start put 1st gen i7/i5 in these reviews or at lest Hilbert starts. Seriously not everyone upgrades every year and some people want to seee how there current i7/i5 compare

Wow it's crazy how much the improvement was from q6600 to 4770k. I'm really excited to upgrade to Devils Canyon soon.

    Tell me about it.

I think I'll do some of my own tests and post them when I do it. It'll be a really good representation of old vs new. I think that guy already had a SSD, I do not. I'll keep mine clocked at 3Ghz during my tests and compare it with my future oc'd 4790.

I'm getting excited just thinking about this... :eek:c:

Not really sure what tests I'll do though.

I have i7 920 and i will upgrade to either this new i7 or i5, not because of performance, but because of features of the newer platform, like USB 3.0, SATA 3 etc. Hell even the Asus Fan Xpert black magic thingy is awesome.

Based on Haswells overclockability (or the lack thereof) and the highish stock clocks of these, one could assume these don't have much oc headroom.

Unless the thermal characteristics have been improved.

I think they will have a fair amount of headroom. Why would Intel go to all the extra trouble if you then couldn't get a decent overclock. It would cost them more and annoy their target consumers.

One would think so yes. Still thinking I should wait till DDR4 hits the market and memory bandwidth takes another leap in performance.

Well theoretically it should be at least 1ghz OC from base clock, but I kinda doubt they will all have low volts to get there.

Imo 4.6 and up to 4.8ghz will be pretty much guarantied, anything more same big lottery like by Haswell now, one needs 1.20v @ 4.6ghz, another 1.35v, one can't even go that far and tops at ~ 4.4ghz @ 1.35v.

And once it hits 1.30-1.35v+ area its not so good anymore. Them voltage 3d-gates get really hot
