My board is an MSI GD65 Z87 GAMING board.

I am stuck on BIOS v1.4 what the board came with. I noticed that there has been multiple versions and its now up to v1.8 so I decided best to update it.

I reset everything back to stock settings in BIOS, formatted a part of my 1TB external HDD to FAT32 and extracted the BIOS version above mine v1.5 which updates the ME firmware on my board as well.

I went into BIOS and selected "Update BIOS & ME from USB" it showed my HDD drive and it shows the file name v1.5 I select that and nothing.

The BIOS just freezes. I waited twenty minutes before reluctantly hitting the reset button. The system booted up fine but I am still on v1.4

I tried just updating the BIOS it self and not ME and still nothing. I tried updating straight to the latest v1.8 and nothing.

Simply my BIOS just freezes, cant move the mouse and use the keyboard.

What am I doing wrong here?

Tried updating from a FAT32 Flashdrive instead of the HDD in case that's the problem?

Maybe the BIOS loses connection to the HDDs during update and can only sustain connection to USB ?

    Just a guess

You try renaming the BIOS file to an 8 character file name?

Got this same board, had this same problem in past a few times.

You need to forget about flashing from within the bios and flash from within good old dos.

Easiest way is to got to msi forums and download svets msi HQ dos flasher. I use it every time now and never any probs.
    Use option 2.

If you look in msi forums its the recomended way to update bios for these boards.
