Default Projector for Gaming - 01-08-2013, 14:12 | posts: 6

I am wanting to buy a projector for gaming but dont want to splash the cash out of the top of the range model, also i dont know much about projectors and there gaming support. My eyes are set on one projector at the moment but i dont know if it will be better than my current monitor.

my monitor is a 22" Hanns-G TFT

You can check 3D Vision and 3DTV Play compatible device on the nvidia website.
I recently bought the Acer H9500BD projector and it performs quite well in 3d gaming. It is compatible with 3DTV Play, I use the 3D Vision infrared receptor and the projector glasses (not the nvidia one, it's only for 3D Vision, not 3DTV Play).

Playing 3D on 100" screen is just awesome! As for the H9500BD, the image quality is very good. I would say it just lacks a bit of brightness in 3D and colors are a bit green. Unfortunately like most of the affordable projector, it is limited to 720p@60hz (1080p is only 24hz). But the image is much more smooth on a projector that on a LCD screen so it's fine. Moreover, I'm running a single 680GTX and @720p 3D it has some difficulties to keep the 60fps stable. So 1080p would require SLI of 680GTX :S

Beware of Epson if you value lamp life.
Their 4000hr bulbs dont even last 1000hrs before they start dimming/flickering badly and they barely last more than 1000hrs.
Tried 2, returned the projector.
But had to threaten the shop with court action because Epson wouldnt allow the return, despite them knowing that it is a general fault with the bulbs.
They are still selling the same bulbs!

Luckily I made enough use of the projector to find out within 6 months, many others arent so lucky.

Thumbs down projector gaming - 05-21-2013, 15:10 | posts: 11 | Location: Newfoundland

i too use them for gaming, i just picked up a pair of BenQ MW516's to play with. i use the SoftTH program for my games(DX9 only so far) and that gives me the 2560x800 resolution im after- still working with aspect in the game so i havent fully set up the 2 proj yet. also just ordered the BenQ 3dglasses so will update when they arrive. my big question is how much vram im gonna need to run properly in 3D. right now im looking at the GTX670 4GB version. if 2 projectors arent feasible i have no problem just running the one proj. lots of lumens is good but i couldnt get over the diff the 10,000 : 1 contrast ratio has. this projector MW516 is at 91" right now and in 2D Crysis3 is simply awsum. as you can see im a bit limited to texture res and lotsa eye candy because of the 460's low VRAM. they still work great (faster than a 580 but no vram) due to the res of this new projector i do not need(i Hope) a high end card anymore. 2560x800 is lower than 1920x1080 so a decent mid-high card with min 3GB VRAM is good im hoping. the 460's push Crysis3 @1080 with low tex res and system on med settings but shadows on low with a min of 40FPS. heres a qwik view of how my vid cards went over the last 6 years.

8800GTX SLI (2007) on 680i mobo, GTX460 SLI (2010)on 680i then popped em into Asus Sabretooth 990FX last year.

lumens is great 2800 for this one bulb life is 6500hrs using smarteco mode which is how it's shipped and contrast is 10,000 : 1. i am very happy with the MW516 and recomend to anyone. loads of connections but the fans are a bit noisy (like it matters at gaming sound levels) or pop on a set of hdphones lol. staples had a screaming deal on them. picked up for 249.95 ea. thanks and happy gaming.
