FX-8350 or FX-6300 -
12-07-2012, 19:30
| posts: 173 | Location: Port Coquitlam, BC
Hey guys,
I'm looking at upgrading my FX-4100. I've been reading a lot of reviews and benchmarks, and I can't really come to a decision for myself here. So I was wondering what you wonderful people would recommend. I will be overclocking, regardless of which cpu I end up purchasing. The main use for my rig is gaming, some light photo editing, and light video editing. I do watch 3D movies on my PC as well. Which cpu would benefit me the most? The 8350 or the 6300? Thanks!
Again, just looking for personal insight.

Theres only a few games that use more than four cores. Since your rig is mainly for gaming, I would advise waiting for steamroller and see what the brings to the table. If your in a hurry, the 6300 would be a decent upgrade.

Thanks for the honest reply. I wouldn't say I'm in a hurry...but I do get bored and tend to impulsively purchase things. Maybe I'll pour some money into a new case or some more memory instead. I appreciate your input!

Although either would be a bit of an upgrade, you probably wouldn't notice much of a difference with overall performance unless you got the 8-core. Given what you already have, your OC and what you use your PC for, I would wait for Steamroller. If you're really feeling the itch, a great deal can be had on the 6300 but wouldn't garnish you too much of a boost.

OOooooookay so I received an ncix gift card (yay!) and I'm thinking of upgrading my CPU again. I really don't have any other upgrades to go for, maybe a mono but my m5a97 has worked wonders thus far
Anyway, my choices are fx6300 plus another 2x4 of ram or an fx8320. Any input? I'm leaning towards the 8320 as most articles I've read state that 16gb of ram beta very little return. Sorry for not starting a new thread but I figured this would be better.

I just got an 8350 to replace my 965, right outta box i went to 4.6 @ 1.4v , now before I got I had replaced my board with new 990fx and 8+2 phase power design. Ive been reading peeps with older power design 4+2, 6+2 havin probs, yes theyll run but not very stable so keep motherboard in mind. But I'm havin fun playin with my 8350. Also screw micro's patch's for core parking. Theres a few prog's out there already that show you parked cores and unpark to use all, and just as fast if u want re-park. Just disabling power saving features in bios doesnt fix it. I just got and did the 4.6 FSB 2400 in like an hour of kwik tweaking and it held under prime for 3 hours,, I plan on doin alot more tweaking as days go by but wanted to play with for a bit first seeing what it can easily do. [1 more edit .. lol I heard chatter bout the streamroller being a different socket I thought about waitin for it too, I'm thinkin they did all they could with AM3+ socket, maybe time to move on before they go under all together.]

Well I picked up the FX-8320. It was a good deal with price match, so I couldn't pass it up. I'm going to see how my M5A97 fairs with it.

Good. By overclocking you can make it perform quite close to the FX-8350.

I'll update once I receive it and begin oc'ing. I'm interested to see how my current mobo fairs with it.

Yes the M5A97 boards are very solid.
The only exception is the LE version which has 4+1 uncooled vrm's....not really ideal for OC'ing an FX,

I can certainly do that for you.
I'm really excited to see what the performance difference is. With my current setup, Batman: AC dips down to 8 fps in the bench. The game itself can get somewhat choppy at times.

I'll get a bench of my current setup, a bench of the stock FX-8320, and a bench of the OC'd FX-8320 and post later tonight. I may need help with postings pics though. I haven't attempted on this forum before.
