Well, there's a reason why there's a section called Guru Pub: basically to keep the rest of the forum clean, technical and on-topic.

Too bad Hilbert isn't here with an official statement about this interesting thread. You won't see half of the pics, more like 0, which is a scam! The whole thing just reads like porn!!

I feel a petition coming up for a restoration of this thread, the pics that is.

And BTW, was expecting some of The General's BS.

in the pub you can post images of sexy girls, the pub is not a church lol however you can't post an image of a naked girl showing her breasts or intimate parts, i think this is a pretty good compromise.

just a matter of decency really, beside kids, there are also some very religious people around here (muslims, christians etc) who might be offended by such images, so the rule of thumb is trying to cater for the majority of users by making the forum a pleasing place for all, everyone should be able to enjoy the Pub.. within limits.

if you want the dirty stuff, you can subscribe to many Pr0n forums out there, where you can discuss and share all your favorite perversions.

G3D is not the right place for this stuff.

I agree with most of that, but disagree on the having to please muslims, christians, etc.

People are respectable, ideas... no, they're not. You can choose to respect an idea, but you don't have the moral or ethical obligation of respecting an idea or belief. There's a big difference between the two but some people seem to not understand it or purposely ignore it or twist it.

Here's a good example:
http://postimage.org/image/qsr4urjtb/

You may and actually have to respect those people, even if their ideas are medieval, but their ideas... I may respect them or may laugh at them, but I'll never feel guilty for not respecting ideas.

Just because other people have some weird medieval retarded religious censorious standards doesn't mean that Guru3D has to cope with them. They chose to some time ago, as I can see from the fact that people are actually surprised about the fact that there used to be tits on the Guru Pub, but that doesn't mean that that's the "correct" thing to do, or the ethically better thing to do. It may be the best thing to do while thinking about more people visiting the site = more money, but pleasing more people isn't equal to doing the correct thing.

I know that we're only talking about tits right now, but I'm sure that some intelligent lads will understand that I'm really not talking about only tits right now, specially after some immature poster waved the "but think about the kids" flag. Heck, there's even a wikipedia article about that (here).

Anyway... just some Saturday night chitty-chat.

People are respectable, their actions and ideas aren't. You may choose to respect them, but there is no moral or ethical obligation.

I may have the idea that because of my religion, I may have the right to kill anyone that steps on my shadow because I think that he's attacking my honor.

That's a stupid, unethical and immoral idea that I just made up as an example and shouldn't be respected. My idea doesn't come before the other person's life.

Now I'll put an example of something real:
I may have the idea that if I rape a woman or a girl because I'm horny as hell, she will have to marry me or else her family will have the obligation to stone her to death for not honoring the marriage.

This actually still happens in some countries and is considered a "cultural" thing.
Again, the idea and the acts that go along with it are not respectable. The physical integrity of the woman/girl goes before the numnut's idea.

And now I'm going to put an example that's closer to most people today:
I may have the idea that marriage between people of different race, skin color, social status or sexual orientation should be prohibited.

Yet again, this happens today in a lot of countries, and yet again that idea you may choose to respect it or to not respect it, but you don't have the obligation of respecting it, and over all, you do have the obligation to respect the people, not their ideas. Their mutual love for each other is none of your business unless they're actually harming others or themselves in a non-consensual way. If you want to be able to choose to not respect their love, you have to prove that they're actually harming others or themselves with actual scientifically proven facts, not with "ideas".

There go three examples, from obvious to maybe not so obvious to some, of why there's no obligation of respecting ideas simply for the sake of respecting ideas.

I hope this clears up why I'm a little radical with this matter and why I react this way with people that think that you may choose to share an idea but all ideas are always respectable. No, you may choose to share an idea... and you may also choose to respect it. Anyone who says otherwise is a threat to logic, science, ethics and morality.

There

Edit: and don't worry, elkosith, I'm not angry with you

I perfectly understand the reason you said ideas are not respectable. I live in one of 'those' countries as the minority. I'm only saying what you have in your mind about ideas is an idea, so in my opinion there's a paradox in what you're saying. You didn't separate between 'good' and 'bad' ideas when stating ideas are not respectable.

How about the idea that all humans are equal and must be treated equally? I'll respect that forever...

Yea, I never take forum talk seriously

You choose to respect an idea, it doesn't mean that it's respectable.

Neither good or bad ideas are respectable. You may choose to respect them because you think that some of them are good and you may choose to not respect other ideas because you think that some of them are not good ideas.

What you think is good may differ from what someone else thinks is good.

Never take for granted that what today seems like a good idea will continue to be so in the future. Probably half of what we think is a good idea right now will be seen as medieval in a few centuries.

What I want to get at is: not respecting someone's idea isn't an attack on that person. When someone says "you're offending my ideas, that means that you're attacking me", that person is making an invalid point. Example: "don't draw a cartoon of the god I follow because you're attacking me". Sorry ate, but attacking you would be physically or verbally attacking you as a person, not one of your ideas.

You have to respect people, not their ideas.
