I fear about the security and privacy ramification on top of that. Many people in the security industry is worried how to properly product customer's data when it's on the cloud.

Couldn't agree more with Steve. I fail to see how the cloud is a good idea at all, and in a world that makes a an extreme fuss over the slightest of hack events (and fair enough too) and with them becoming more and more sophisticated not to mention the rise of rouge groups that go on vendettas every now and then.

I dont get it, companies have all this extremely sensitive info and they think it's a great idea to store it online on servers, and I'm not warming to the idea of my..say medical history being stored online, that's if it isn't already.

I'll always prefer hard copies any day not to mention....ah i forgot what else i was gonna say.

The way I see it the cloud service should be always secondary to real physical service. Never the main service. I use Google Drive for backups, but I have them in DVDs first. The problem with DVDs is that they don't last for many years, while a cloud-based storage can (assuming they have good backup policies). Ultimately, if I want to store pictures of my baby, I still think the best thing to do is to print them and put them in an album

I agree with Woz about you do not own anything that you put on the cloud. Also how far can you trust your cloud provider?

I have been using Carbonite cloud storage for the last few months and so far I am pleased with their service. Uploads and downloads are pretty fast. They also claim to encrypt your files prior to backup and use a 1024bit encryption method on the storage site itself. Weather or not this is true is anyones guess. But so far I have not had a problem with them.

It's pretty amazing when you can just deploy another server with a click of a button instead of mailing/calling your server provider. Plus it's cheaper usually since you can pay for MHz hours instead of a flat fee.
