Looking good for sure! Hope they stick to their roots with the gameplay and feel of the cars. The graphics also look like they could be pretty damn good from seeing the video and screenshots

This sequel is long, long overdue IMO. Hopefully, Codemaster's track record of good racing games will get back on track (no pun intended) with this and F1 2012 after the threadbare and bitterly disappointing DiRT Showdown. I loved the original GRID on the Xbox 360 and more so on the PC, running as it did at 60 fps, so this sequel is eagerly awaited. Hope they don't mess it up.

Codemaster are to remove the in car view from GRiD 2 as they say that a survey showed that only 5% of gamers actually use it.
Well that just ruined one of my favourite racing IP's. I only ever used in car and bumper cam.

was all excited for this as Grid is excellent, however read this:

In-car view is out, after Codemasters' research discovered that 95 per cent of players use chase or bonnet cameras to play.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...e-were-british

So yep, lost most of my interest in this already. In car view is the only view i used, also its the only view that TrackIR works in( Grid or Dirt ).

You guys are freaking silly.

Grid isn't anything approaching realistic.

It's satisfying, without being too arcadey. They don't want you to drift around every corner. There's no silly bonuses, or power ups, points, whatever.

But it is not realistic by any means. Not even close.

WTF! I will not buy this if they go ahead with this, the inside view was awesome in dirt and grid.

sounds like they are going down the dirt showtime route they will remove physics and damage too because "made up percent of people found the cars too hard to drive ;_;"

No in-car view? Hmmmmmm that would suck. The in-car view experience is what makes the difference between good and bad racing games. I wont believe it until I see it..or not see it I suppose.

No in-car view = not interested, I'm afraid. DiRT Showdown had that stripped out as well and that just added to what was already a deeply underwhelming game. I think Codemasters are losing the plot a bit to be honest.

Just watched the dev interview what a load of bs, saying they left it long so they could build on everything from the first game...removing stuff is not building on.

also he says immersion, total immersion, immersion, immersion for the player ect over and over then says we are removing the cockpit view from this version....

wasn't that the number one thing from grid that made you feel like you were really in the cars!?

Anyway's sounds like bs to and the devs sound like dicks even if the 5% is correct which im guessing they didn't count pc players that's still 1 in 20 players that your basically telling don't matter.

Hmm.. seems it's gonna be another failed sequel ..no cockpit view/bumper cam is just stupid.

And from article here it just doesn't sound like they kept anything good from the first game, though they keep insisting they have... I'm sure this is just to insure some pre-order sales from people who will regret it on release day.

“GRID’s back and we’re going to make street, track and road racing exciting again,”
^^are these really 3 different things?... surely street and road are the same thing?... or does this mean GRID2 will have some illeagal street racing in it, NFS style?

I really hope we're all wrong about this game being a failure but the evidence so far says it will be.

I love nothing more when starting a race than to look around left and right in cockpit view at my opponents who I'm just about to smoke. Take that small pleasure away from me and what have you got? Me going basically.

Ironic then that "Codemasters Racing" as they now like to be known stripped out precisely what makes racing games so enjoyable for me personally. I'm sorry it ended this way GRID but I'm afraid we're just no longer compatible.

I did, I love in-car camera. But instead of just whining, how about you let them know.

I don't care too much about the cockpit view in an acracde title, I'd play the game with a pad anyway.
If i'd want to play with a wheel, i'd fire up a sim or take my car for a spin.

It's just a game, get over it.

Their response to no in car view:
Quote:
"First of all, it's important to say that every design decision we make is done with a lot of careful consideration and not taken lightly. We're acutely aware of the love there is for GRID in our community and we want to deliver the best possible experience for everyone.

There seems to be some confusion about where we get our data from to help us make these decisions. While we do use research and focus groups, the most important data source for us is the enormous amount of telemetry data we can obtain from our servers that tells us exactly how and what our players are doing across all our games. So it's not a case of just a sample of people we've spoken to in research, it's a fact that only 5% of Codemasters Racing game players ever used the in-car view.

We certainly don't want to alienate any of our fans we want to deliver truly exciting features that 100% of our players will enjoy. Videogame development is always about trade-offs and in this case, taking the hard decision to lose the in-car views for 5% of our players (and remember we still have bonnet cam and bumper cam, which many people with racing wheels use), is something we felt was more beneficial to everyone. They are expensive to run due to the requirement for high-resolution interior textures which are seen close-up and require a considerable amount of in-game memory (to store) and processing (to render).

What this means in practice is that the benefit to our vehicle models, environment models and the hundreds of other things in the environment sapping memory, is huge. By making this educated call, we can use the extra available memory to make the on-track racing a truly mind-blowingly immersive experience.

For example, we can author and run higher resolution vehicle models with more detailed geometry. We can feature higher resolution external vehicle textures and work further detail into our environment textures. We can dedicate more processing power to our improved physics systems, integral to the GRID 2 experience, and push other systems to the next level, such as particles and real-time lighting. And there are many more benefits.

One final point to make is that we’re at the tail-end of the current console generation. We’re now incredibly familiar with the current hardware and have reached the point that we’re getting EVERYTHING possible from it. We’re dedicated to pushing GRID 2 to the next level, making it the definitive racing game on this generation of hardware. Dropping a lesser-used feature such as interior cam frees up the memory and processing power to push the more prominent systems to the next level is a tough decision but it's one we felt had to be made, for the benefit of the majority of players.

If you’re still not convinced, all I ask is that you wait and see what we've got to show you. We've only scratched the surface of what we've got to show you on GRID 2 - there's lots more to coming in the months to follow and I genuinely think that you'll really enjoy it. Come and see for yourself at Eurogamer Expo.

Executive Producer Clive Moody"

So, to give better visuals to console heads for the environments and car's they've dropped the in car view. Long live PC ports.

Memory and processing power isn't a problem for the PC and it is an entirely optional mode they could've left in for the PC crowd. Maybe they couldn't be bothered making something extra for the pc.

For people too lazy to read it basically reads

"we removed the inside view because consoles are too **** to handle it"

even that's bs reason if you ask me, surly they get the memory back from the fact they don't have to render the outside of the most detailed car on the track, minus the reflections, drive ect too.

Sounds like lazy rushed game imo, shift managed it on consoles and even dirt games which looks fantastic even on console.
