Default i7 baseclock stock cooler temps = 100C? should i complain? - 08-04-2012, 14:08 | posts: 724 | Location: Belgium

I have a N5110 notebook. I always thought that on stock cooling when stressed while compiling a linux kernel for example temps shouldnt be reaching 100C

I have a 2630QM.

Temps reach 100C when:

8 cores used + turbo boost = 100C
4 cores used + turbo boost = 100C
8 cores used without turbo boost (2.0ghz) = 100C

is this normal ?

212°F (100°C) is very hot, have you been in contact with Dell? Maybe there is a BIOS update to help solve this. I did a quick check and it seems this model runs hot but not as hot as you posted.

My 2630QM in my hp dv6 can hit ~95c but that is only with the gpu under load too. I don't think that is normal at all for raw cpu load.

Doesn't sound normal to me, less you have ventilation slots covered and obscured.

^ This

I used 2 door shims on each side of her laptop to have it lifted up a bit because the fan exhaust is right on the bottom and when its sitting on our wood desk, it gets insanely hot. make sure it has breathing room.
