Ahhh, yes - my first "real" computer. I "accidentally" found my Christmas gifts in my Mom's closet that year, and borrowed Ultima (on 5 1/4" floppy) from my buddy so I'd have something to play Christmas day. So I acted surprised as I opened it and set about fooling around with it. She busted me later, asking "Where'd you get the game? It didn't come with any?" I told her I borrowed on the off-chance I got my most-wanted gift. Good times.

I was so proud of that thing...up until my best friend got a Commodore 128. I thought "Great, his has 64 more than mine". Such a tragedy...

Great times, I agree. I had a Speccy and my next-door neighbour had a C64. One day we'd play on my computer and the next day on his. It was a sort of friendly rivalry.

The best 8bit computer of all time for me and i owned all the 8 bits at some point even the msx which was another i had imported from Japan at the time in the 1980s long before the internet.

C64 was home to many great classics like Last Ninja,Head over Heels,IK,IK+,California games,Leaderboard golf variations,Elite,Pirates,Barbarian,Uridium,Gunship ,Silent Service,Beach head,Rescue on Fractalus,etc etc etc,i could go on forever.

It was very advanced for its time producing very colourful sprites with amazing sound(SID chip),alot of the ideas in games back then were very very fresh,original and innovative.

Happy Birthday to a Legendary machine which is still being used to this day in 3rd world countries.

If you wasnt priveleged or old enough to experience this amazing machine then you missed out bigtime.

i still got mine C64 in its own box along with all the games and tapes etc

i actually gave to my lawyer a signed statement a couple years ago, that if something happens to me and i die for any reason, i want them to bury me with my C64.

that's how much i love my Commodore 64.

I recall the day I sat astounded when my friend brought over a floppy with 10 seconds of Led Zeppelin's "Living, Loving, Maid" in far-worse-than-AM radio quality. Imagine that: music...on a disk (!?!).

LOL!! I remember that floppy circulating as well. One of my friends and I listened to it many times on the C64.

Also remember playing hours and hours of games like Mail Order Monsters, Spy vs Spy, Castles of Dr Creep, and of course, Winter Games, Summer Games, and California Games.

30 years? I didn't expect it to be that old. My first PC was something pretty similar, an Amstrad CPC 464, but this was in 1988

Great tunes,off the top of my head I think Tim Follin and Rob Hubbard and Ben Daglish were 3 of the best writers for producing sound,check this out from Ben Daglish,this game sold millions of C64's,fact.

Yeah a fine rival to the C64 the Cpc was,more chunkier graphics it had,not as smooth looking as C64 but had its own style,had more vibrant colours than the C64 unless you had one of those ****ty green screens.

hmm interesting, i didnt know he was related.
my personal favorites were jeroen tel , jens cristian huus,Reyn Ouwehand ,Rob Hubbard,and Edwin van Santen.

Some games had great music, though most were in demo's or intro's.
