I believe in IPS monitors more than any other monitor for gaming. The money you spent into hardware to make everything look better only makes sense if you have something worthwhile to display it.

If money isn't a problem, the Dell U2711/U3011 is an excellent choice.
If you're on a budget, take a look at the Korean A- IPS monitors on Ebay (Yamakasi/Shimian/Crossover)
Besides the U3011 which is IPS 1600p at 30", all the other ones are 27" IPS at 1440p.

When it comes to response times, these monitors are just fine. Some people like to think otherwise by crunching numbers but it's just something that is completely unnoticeable and people who own those displays will tell you the same thing. But either way, what is 10ms more when you get 70% more pixels and MUCH better colors.

Then there is also the fact that these displays are rated for 60Hz, while some gaming branded monitors nowdays tend to provide you 120Hz, which yeah, is a very good alternative to IPS colors. That is where you have to draw the line in the current state of tech, but I will tell you countless of people I know who own 120Hz displays and made the switch to IPS can't stand looking back at their old TN, no matter how "smooth" it feels. Matter of opinion I guess.

There is also the best of both worlds (IPS/27"/1440p/100-120hz) right now, but it is a limited run over at www.120hz.net and it's really hard to get an unit from there at the moment. I wasn't sure if I should mention it because of that, but that's where I got mine from so the deal is legit.

+1, no lag on my IPS 27" screen at all and i am very sensitive. Colors are also amazing, i can't go back to TN for normal use and i thought my old TN screen looked really good before i got this..

However for competitive fps (and ONLY competitive FPS) i like ~19" non wide screen displays and i like to get up close to the screen (~1 foot). I use an ancient SyncMaster 940b at 75Hz for CS 1.6, Quake 3, ut2k4 etc.

When you say best gaming display you should state if it's for immersion or for competitive use.

My old TN panel looks superior simply because it didn't use this anti glare coating. Having superior colours is meaningless if it's completely obstructed by a grainy rainbow-ish/sparkle effect that makes white look grey.

looks like ill wait till sep and buy one from overlordcomputer i did end up buying some cheap ips from ebay for >300 we will see how that goes.

It's a hyperfast 120Hz TN monitor but it was designed together with some Counter Strike gamers (legends lol) with also a nice option to set the screen to smaller modes, down to 19 and 17" 4:3 for the pre-widescreen era classics. It's the only TN screen ever to get a Very Good rating at Prad.de, so BenQ must have done something right.

True enough. Maximum PC has this monitor rated "Kick Ass". Best gaming monitor today.

Can't you already do that with any monitor by letting the GPU scale the resolution for you?

These over at MC seem like a safer bet for anyone looking into the 27" ips panels and doesn't want to go thru ebay. I would personally go 60Hz ips over 120Hz tn any day

Yep, as far as gaming goes, it's better to look into 120Hz monitors. BenQ for 24 inch and the ASUS if you'd like to go bigger with 27 inch.
