7970 no HDMI -

Yesterday I bought a hd7970 as my GTX570 **** its self for unknown reasons. Any way, got home, fitted card and using dvi installed drivers. Let everything install and restarted a few times before turning off. Once computer was turned off , changed monitor connection from dvi to hdmi, rebooted computer and nothing display on monitor except no signal. I have changed monitor to hdmi input before anyone asks lol, turned comp off and changed back to dvi and display is back. Have downloaded and installed drivers off gigabytes website still nothing. Connected monitor to pay tv box via hdmi and picture is present. I'm now wondering if I've spent 500 dollars on a dud card. Funny thing is I was looking at a gtx 670.
Please help.
Oh I also want the hdmi connection so I can connect a second monitor via dvi
I am running a I7 2600k, 16gb ram

HDMI working here, are you using 1920x1080 or lower?
are you connect directly to the HDMI port or using a DP to HDMI adapter?

Have tried many cables, still no HDMI, connected monitor to wifes computer with same cable, hdmi works, took computer to lounge room and connected to hdmi tv all ok I have picture , return to bedroom try monitor again, still no hdmi. As silly as it sounds is the monitor incompatible with my card via HDMI ?

Connected different HDMI monitor and it works, I've never seen this before, problem sorted by buying a new monitor.
