Default Intel 3rd generation processors (desktop) WIDI? - 07-20-2012, 07:32 | posts: 12

Can someone confirm that on PC (desktop, not laptop) you can use WIDI (Wireless display) only with 3rd generation intel processors (for example i5-3570k) and max resolution is 1080p?
Widi with 2nd generation processors are possible only with notebooks (max resolution 720p)?
What is WIDI max distance? Do I need to have wireless network card?

Planning to have desktop in one room, TV in another. Often watching internet streams so it is not enough just to share video files through LAN.

From what I've been reading, alot of people are having issues within 10 feet - with a clear line of sight. Walls create more issues.

In regards to your question about needing wireless card, the answer is yes, and very specific. (see link)

It will only work with Core i5/i7 CPU laptops with Intel WiDi and Intel HD graphics. 2nd Gen i5/i7 can display full 1080p HD video.

I'm unsure of 1st Gen capabilities.

All requirements for WiDi listed on page linked below.
