Default A/V Receiver has one set of Multi channel Analog inputs : 2 Devices - 07-20-2012, 07:52 | posts: 3,923 | Location: Australia

Just wondering, my receiver has one set of multi channel analogue inputs, however I have my soundcard and I also have a Universal player that can be plugged in too. While It's still brilliant using just front left and right and all channel stereo on my receiver for DVD Audio and SACD discs, I was wondering if anyone knows how to connect 2 devices to the same multi analogue inputs? Maybe a switch box or something, thanks.

regards,
RagDoll.

I think this is kind of thing you're looking for:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Audio-Video-...item231fa8331b

This was the only place I could find exact item like this.. it must not be very common and there must be a reason why.

I would suspect the reason is because most people with a high end Blu-ray player or what not would connect with HDMI.

Hope I helped man

Is your new player Multi-channel? If so you will need a switch. If it is only stereo use one of the other high resolution inputs such as DVD...

Hope that helps.

A cheaper option would just be splitters. They have two RCA female connectors on the one enc for your gear and one male on the other end for your receiver. Use one for every signal. If you are not sure of the adapters I speak of, let me know and I will find you a picture.

Thought of that a while ago, but I think it won't be a clear signal to each channel, cos it's sort of sharing channels, anyway I've already ordered a splitter box, a good one and it only cost me 30 dollars

thanks,
RagDoll.

It was an option although not the optimal one. The best option would be the selector box. Let us know how it works out for you.

I don't like to have two outputs feeding into each other. You can probably get away with it on low voltage rca outs, but I know with speaker level stuff you will kill everything in the chain. (Unfortunately speaking from experience when i was just getting into audio)

Also, sound quality wise, you would get interference sometimes because they are sharing the same channel essentially...

Nobody mentioned high level outputs and I doubt anybody around here would as that would be an extremely bad idea.
Even with RCA's it is not the optimal situation, it is best to have them switchable as what the OP ended up with.

Right, I was just pointing out that I don't like plugging any type of outputs into each other.

No not for any type of higher level output. Sometimes you can get away with it for line level output but as I said it is not an optimal solution which is why a switch was recommended as the best solution.
