Default PC Freezes in (Some) games - 07-18-2012, 23:14 | posts: 3

Recently my computer has started freezing in (some) newer games, even though my specs are above the recommended standard.

PC Specs :

MB: Asus P5Q SE2
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.00GHz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 465 (Inno3D) 1GB DDR5 RAM
RAM: 8GB DDR2 (Corsair)
PSU: Tagan 2-Force II series 500W

The problem first occurred when I installed Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, I started playing and it froze, ever since it has been crashing in APB: Reloaded, I haven't had the chance to test in many other games but I can still play Arma 2 and STALKER: COP.

I've tried to pinpoint the problem by stress testing individual hardware components (CPU, GPU) aswell as checked the integrity of my RAM. I have also updated to newest drivers, reverted to earlier drivers, updated DirectX, changing my Sound format around, (Now I have the newest drivers and it still doesn't work).

I've tried setting up a Logger to see if I get error messages at the time it crashes but I can't find anything. I've tried setting up monitoring to see if the GPU, CPU, or MB gets too hot but everything looks normal.

I've run out of ideas.

Seems to me if it's working fine not doing intensive working/gameing that your system is overheating in the cpu or gpu area. Make sure your fans work good and clean without dust buildup.

Remember, you can always test to see if it's a heat issue by opening the side of the case and taking a room fan and blowing the fan right into the PC.

If you are still experiencing issues after the above procedure, it's probably not a heat issue unless your room is 90 degrees :-)

Power supply. My pc did the same thing last year. I replaced every part one by one and the psu was the culprit. 400w is a little low, and you have to remember that they degrade over time.
