M5a97 EVO MoBo O/C with TurboV EVO (Auto)

What do you guys think about this utility? I tried it and it O/C'd my rig to CPU BUS = 237 MHz and taking the default x17 Multiplier the CPU freq. is 4029+/-...It also automatically upped voltage on CPU/NB/DRAM...and changed RAM timings...PC is pretty stable, though I have not been very rigorous in my testing.

Overall, a reported 20% +/- increase in performance...

CPU-Z reports Dram = 792 MHz w/ 9-9-9-24-33-1T versus JEDEC#4 of 9-9-9-27-36 (800MHz){Unganged}

Could I get a better O/C manually?

I know most serious O/C'ers push BIOS BIOS BIOS...but idk, the TurboV settings are ASUS's offering...

I tried it out just for kicks, seems rather bloated imho. Might be OK for checking stability in Windows, but any permanent settings should be made in the BIOS.

The Auto function is not great either, it only managed a 3.6Ghz OC while sending the vcore sky high.

I get a much better result overclocking manually through the bios.

Here's what you could achieve with some trial and error and a lot of patience...(vcore is wrong btw).

Yes there is something up when it comes to ASUS and "Auto" They just to go overboard on the Vollts. Thank goodness for Offset Voltage(at least on Intel anyway, not used AMD since my Opty 170)

Your 955 is stock 3.2 yes? So you have a 900 MHz O/C?
May I ask what your stock Voltage was?
I see you are only at 1.36v so your temps must be pretty low I would guess. TurboV changed CPU v to 1.5 and that def heated things up, similar to your results with test...

I was having Temp issues due to no A/C, but solved that w/ mobile A/C unit pushing air into case lol.

Could you share your BIOS settings w/ me? :p {As a start point or reference}

Did you in general follow Psychlone's Technique for O/C'ing as written up in this Forum?

Yes 900mhz OC...was up to 4.2 at one stage but cpu needed more voltage than I was willing to give it.
955 stock vcore is 1.325 - the same as your 965.

My temps are 29c idle and about 42c under load, the low vcore helps but I'm also using a CM Hyper N620 cooler that does a great job.

No I haven't read his guide, didn't really need to as I've been overclocking AMD cpu's since Athlon XP. I still recommend it for anyone looking for advice though.

Asus M boards must be skewed with voltages. Mine seems wrong at times also.

Can some one please explain what Offset Voltage is?

Offset Voltages is a Bios Setting (versus Manual or Auto)

When selected the offsets can be + or -.
Then voltages can be changed by 0.00625v or 0.005v increments, either + or -, depending on what you selected.

This mode is the alternative to Manual Mode wherein a user can select voltages by inputting the actual voltage, ie. 1.5v for vCore instead of 1.45v default.

These voltages tie in with "digi+vrm" load line calibrations...

User Guide states: "CPU working voltage will decrease proportionally to CPU loading..."

Which can be verified by constantly fluxuating vCore values when benchmarking in OCCT. ie, I get from around 1.392v-1.5v when Benching with normal range CPU Multipliers.

What I don't know is if I set say, vCore to 1.5v, do I then need to change Load Line to at least 110% to allow the MoBo to supply the extra juice when the CPU asks for it...
