Is it just me or are these impossible to get at the moment in the UK. I graduated from University in 2010 with a BSc (hons) Computing and I am studying an MSc in Technology Management (part time). I am working full time in insurance sales at the moment and obviously not enjoying it.

Really trying to find roles in IT (non technical; leading to project management, business analysis etc) and no-one seems to want to give us grads a chance. Anyone have any tips or advice, anyone know who is hiring out there? I have been trying to get into smaller companies recently as I have found the competition is less stiff there but any tips would be welcome

Yup, sucks but what can you do ? Find some other jobs (which you atm have, good) and keep on looking. In here there are plenty of unemployed people with a degree of that stuff so getting a job is hard. But really, dont give up and keep on looking, you might get lucky (like some have). Sign up to websites which have available jobs listed and manage that stuff if you have not done that already (nothing to lose)... To me that you need to know someone from company (try to get to know people) to get you known and perhaps you will get lucky that way.

Keep on learning stuff, learn from your mistakes and dont give up. Good luck.

Thanks man, yeh I guess I am lucky to have a job in the climate. I attend networking events to try and get myself out there and I do some freelance work too. Hope it all pays off

Thanks hallryu, appreciate the kind words, I hope the hard work pays off, my mate finished at the same time with a first class degree in the same field and is also finding it quite hard,I guess those that persevere make it

Don't limit your search to the UK and the EU, have a look at the US or even here. Probably better prospects in the States though.

I went to halfway across the world to South Africa for 9 months to gain some experience, but I have my GF living here and I wouldn't want to do that to her again

No one wants a straight-out-of-college manager. Get some regular experience under your belt. Work under the position you're looking for, then, after a time, you can get the better job.

The problem is there is too many qualified people and not enough jobs here in the UK its as simple as that, there are jobs in the UK but its about being in the right place at the right time and you may have to relocate.

Moving to the US is pretty hard unless you're going to get an employer to pay for an H1-B.
Canada may be easier.

The youth unemployment is a big ****ing problem. It isn't just you.

I will write you a poem of motivation.

The lama climbed the mountain,
The mountain climbed the lama,
The grass on the field fed the lama,
The hunter saw the lama in the field,

The Lama is now dead.

Thank you and best of luck to you! don't worry I know how hard it is to find a job and to get the one you want, but whatver you can get take it... build your CV and take allll the real world working expierence you can get!

This, I've been trying to get a job in Networking/IT Support for the last two years, there is a ludicrous amount of people applying for the same job and over qualified people apply for a lower position cause they were made redundant from their previous job.

A lot of companies outsource their IT support to companies abroad cause its cheap, I would suggest targeting a different field like Programming or Networking.

Also have a look at certifications for the fields you want to work in, a lot of servers are heading for virtualisation so there may be an increase in jobs for people with VMware certifications and experience.

Good luck with the job search

Thanks bro, it is for a high tech engineering company and the grad scheme is commercial and business development. Even though I.T. was my the degree I did this is well suited to my skills. I love tech but I love the application of it more.

Congrats bro.

I'm on the technical jobs now , they are ones i like the most, but they seem a little less paid than others ¬¬, so i'll try when i do a PhD ._. But i better like a tech job than a higher-level one when the pay is good, even if that tech is hardest one ever (which makes it more interesting )
