Default Flickering with 12.6 and 12.7 - 07-10-2012, 03:19 | posts: 153 | Location: worcester, ma

Hi,

Lately I've been noticing some flickering during games like Fear 3 and Just Cause 2 that were never there before. Looks like trying to watch a scrambled cable channel. Seems like it started after upgrading from 12.3 to 12.6 or 12.7. This is with eyefinity multi-monitor setup with two dvi's and an active display port mini adapter to dvi on a triple xfire 6970 rig. Disabling crossfire mode has no effect as it still persists.

So I tried testing each video port one by one to see if I could pin it down to a bad dvi port or maybe displayport adapter. Each port tested out cleanly without flicker individually. However with all three monitors attached in mirror mode (eyefinity turned off) the displayport monitor flickered and would spread to other monitors only if eyefinity was turned on.

Gets even more curious when rolling back to 12.3 the problem disappears and the flickering went away. So either I have a bad displayport adapter or there is something wrong with these new drivers?

Any ideas?

Thanks a million!

Dave.

This is driving me crazy. After each driver release something else breaks. Need to get my hands on an extra dp adaptor though my gut is telling me thats just fine and rather not waste another dollar on these cards. I mean why do we need to use a dp adaptor? Why cant we use dvi, dvi, hdmi? Or even another dvi port on a second card?

Anyhow this is the last time I go with AMD technology!

Just talked with AMD 2nd level support engineer and he thought (besides being rude) that its the adapter as its not on the AMD approved list of dongles. Furthermore he went on to say they don't support triple crossfire. So I may get a new adapter from the approved list and see what happens..
