Default Radeon 7850 no screen problem - 06-22-2012, 02:47 | posts: 12 | Location: Hungary, Budapest/Veszprém

Hi!

I recently bought a Sapphire Radeon 7850 and I've experienced the following problem: When I turn on the PC there's nothing visible on the monitor for 2-3 minutes. Sometimes the display goes to standby mode. However after this 2-3 minutes suddenly the screen turns on and from then I can use the PC normaly. However if I let the monitor to go into standy by again the machine didn't react for moving the mouse nor type anything for 1 minute, after that the screen just on again.
I also tried to enter the BIOS,it's works but the same goes for it as for the Win7. The screen is blank for a while and suddenly turns on.

I reseat the DVI cable and pulled out and put in the card twice. I also reseat the power cable for the card.

In the BIOS I switched between the PCI,PEG and PEG2 modes it's also didn't help.

Latest drivers are in use.

I didn't know what cause this problem, but it's really annoying. I really appreciate any tips how to solve this issue. I only have a guess that the 7850 got PCIE 3.0 and maybe this cause this issue.

Thanks!

What display do you have? There is a model of LG displays that do not like some ATI cards at all. I don't know about it more, than that a friend of mine has a display that will stay black/intermittent with almost every ATI card but works with all nVidia cards AND the same ATI cards will work with other displays.

I've got a Dell U2311H. The intersting thing is if I put back the Sapphire 6850 then everything is ok. I've done a lot of searching and I've found out that disable of the "ulsd" may help in some cases. But I don't really know how to disable it. If I'am right it's related with the crossfire feature, but not sure.

I will also try the new beta driver 12.5 to see it helps or not.

Update:

So I've disabled the ulps and I've installed the drivers. It's not help at all. I've written a mail to AMD maybe they have got an idea.

I've also tried the catalyst 12.6 and 12.7 they also not help. I thinking about to move the card to the second PCIE slot, but I don't know it's even worth a point or not...

I think the ati drivers may cause that. Why dont you try to entirely wipe your ati drivers and let the windows install its drivers to see how it will perform. Have a try. I think this is a bug with ati because I had same problems sometimes.

It's a good idea,I would like to re-install the win7 also ( clean start ),but as I didn't see the boot screen it's really hard to do it. I will go on holiday and I will give my 7850 to a friend of mine to see this only a problem in my system or it appears also on a totaly different system too.

I also faced the following while using MSN:

Yeah give it to your friend. And if your gpu works well on his pc you have ¦Ó¦Ď get another win7 iso to install on your pc. Get a legit copy is more safe.

I will do that. I resintalled the win7 today. The black screen is the same. However during one of the restarts I seen the post screen, but only once.

So we tested the card in my friends system. It's worked perfetly fine,we see the post screen. I think the problem is maybe caused by some settings in the BIOS.
