Default Which GTX 560Ti? - 07-07-2012, 21:42 | posts: 13

I'm buying a Geforce 560TI and am wondering which to buy. My priorities are not so much overclocking capability, but performance/value and quietness. I've had a look at some MSI versions and they look good, but can't decide between these two:

MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti Hawk 1024MB @ 950MHz
MSI nVIDIA GTX560Ti OC @ 880MHz

They are roughly the same price for me. Are there any other, better models to look out for?

Cheers

If they are close to the price of a 2GB HD 7850 then get the 7850...See your other thread

There's a difference of around £30, so I can't really stretch to the HD7850.

If I was buying a 560 Ti I would be looking for the 448 core models like this one.

I might struggle to stretch to that, it seems to be around the same price as the HD 7850.

2 Gigabyte Visiontek 7850 $239.99

The 448 core is similar to the 570.

See: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/518?vs=549

Personally I'd take the 7850, more memory, slightly cheaper, less power consumption.

Yeah i guess if it is getting into 7850 territory then I would recommend a 7850.

I'm in the UK, so its going to cost me an extra £20 to stretch to a HD7850 from a 560Ti. Is it worth it? That's assuming this card (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-112...1695187&sr=8-1) is a decent model? Will it be compatible with my Dell XPS630i? Its only had a 9800GT in it before. The PSU is fine I think, as is the size of the case, is the motherboard ok etc? These are the specs of my machine: http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...HTML/specs.htm

Should work just fine, the 7850 uses less power than the 560 TI does. I've used Sapphire in the past and never had a problem.

So does this look OK then? I've never had AMD video cards before, I assume they are as stable and consistent across games as Nvidia cards?

EDIT: Also, can I just check that I'm not wasting my money by going with such an impressive card, in relation to it being bottleknecked by my Q9450 2.66GHZ CPU and 4GB of RAM.

You'll find most games are GPU limited rather than CPU so it shouldn't be much of a problem. The CPU you have can still pull it's weight, it shouldn't really be a cause for concern. That said, I'd say it's right at the edge, I'd not go for a higher end GPU than the 7850 for your setup.

The card looks great, and as for the difference between Nvidia and ATI as far as stability goes - I've never had too many problems with ATI. No more so than with Nvidia, although you'll get naysayers on both sides. ATI is generally fine until Crossfire comes into the equasion, and that's not going to be a problem for you.

Ok, thanks a lot, that's really helpful, I think I'll plump with the HD 7850 then.

I'm sure you'll love it, absolutely massive upgrade. Be sure to check the forums for advice on how to remove your Nvidia drivers fully so there's no conflicts when you put the new card in. Let us know how it goes when you get it!

In what section of the forum would that be. I didn't realise you had to remove the Nvidia drivers...

You do indeed, it's a fairly common mistake by people changing cards as it's often overlooked.

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=306922

That should tell you how to go about it once your card arrives. Also, be sure to download the newest drivers from the ATI/AMD website - don't use the ones that come on the disk with the card.

Sorry, just one last quick question. Which of the following HD 7850's is the best value for money: http://www.dabs.com/category/compone...37?q=hd%207850

I was going to go with the cheapest Sapphire model, knowing I could eventually overclock if I wanted to, but is it worth another tenner to increase the core speed by 60MHz out of the box? Are any of the other options particularly worthwhile?

For an extra fiver I'd probably get the Asus Direct CUII, from what I understand that's the same cooler they put on their 7870 Direct CU - as such it cools extremely well. The downside is the card is a little longer due to it. This shouldn't be a problem, but it might be worth checking your case can accommodate it if you take that option.
