Jesus the temps are ridiculous, u shoudnt get higher than 80șC for that CPU.
Check if the CPU cooler is in it's place properly.

Temps that high are not normal, and enjoy your new cooler.

you should be no more than 47C idle temps at most on oc. For stock clocks temps shouldnt exceed no more then 55-60C....on air...and or water/chilled watercooling....your temps are why out of line. i am at 4600mhz on Core i7 950 @ 95F idle temps running 1.5875 Volts. 39.9F water temps. Running refrigeration compressor and chilling water using custom fabricated chilling barrels. FTW......

Water temps creep into the low 30's and into the 20's if it has been running and circulating....Glycol mix.

I used to run the system as low as -15 F using 10 gallons to charge down, high amount of Glycol and using a nice Aquarium sea life pump....but dont use it for everyday gaming. : D

At 90% loads i see mabe 140F max.....
at about 50% loads 125F ish
idle temps like i said 85-95F.....on cores moving around a tad. @ 39-43 F water/glycol temps.

Try reseating your proc and heatsink....redo your thermal paste...and make sure u use enough...contact is important, get some good thermal paste.

Core i7 870 is perfectly safe to run above 60C...long as he's below 80C he's perfectly fine.
