Default Afterburner affecting framerate on all games - 07-04-2012, 01:32 | posts: 3

I have a 580gtx and currently all my games seem to run at 25fps and below. However when I uninstall Afterburner and restart my computer, everything turns back to normal.
This is strange as I haven't touched Afterburner's settings other than regulate at what temperatures the GPU fan should kick in.
I have a core2 quad and 8gb ram. As I mentioned, the gpu's a 580gtx.

Thank you for your time.

The frame limiter may be active.

On the right of the taskbar is an icon for the Rivatuner Statistics server.
Open it and click on the spanner.

Set framerate limit to zero.

I didn't see that anywhere in the taskbar (v2.2.2). However I ran MSI Afterburner OSD which I assume is what you're referring to and the Frame Limiter was already at 0.
Thanks anyway.

The problem persists after I exit one game and start another, close down Afterburner or even uninstall it. I have to restart to get things back to normal. So that's definitely not the case.
The slowdown doesn't kick in as soon as I install Afterburner, it takes hours. Even if I come back to my PC hours later without running anything the slowdown kicks in as soon as I run a game (I've only tried Super Street Fighter IV and Deus Ex HR, two games that run over 60fps otherwise).
Speedfan doesn't give me any settings to manipulate and neither does Rivatuner which seems to be seriously out of date.
Is there any other program that does what Afterburner is supposed to?
