Default Some Advice! - 07-04-2012, 18:48 | posts: 187 | Location: England

Hi guys.

I went from a 6950 xfire, then to a single 6950, then i tried the Gigabyte Nvidia HD 670 Windforce 3X. but i sent it back as for 1 i just couldn't get all aa working in rfactor.(no problems with AMD cards) and it stuttered in games to much!

Now i'm on a Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 Windforce 3X.
I've been trying BF3. in game i have everything maxed out, 1920x1200, but no blur!
In the CCC Control i have, as seen below!
Does everything look ok there?

It just don't feel butter smooth like i thought it would! if i turn 4xaa off in game, it helps abit.
I uninstalled the drivers, then rebooted in safe mode, run Driver Sweeper, rebooted, installed the drivers, rebooted.
I have tried 12.6/12.7 drivers. still the same. (not sure which would be better) do you think i'll have to reformat the drive and start over?
Some advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Well saying "it's not smooth" doesn't really help much...is it stuttering/fps drops/lag you're describing or....?

With 6GB ram it's possible the PF is being used which causes stutter...BF3 runs best with 8GB ram....is it only BF3 that's affected?

I wouldn't reinstall the OS either, a good clean out with DS or whatever should be enough.

The game play don't feel smooth! it's like a slow down of frame movement.
I have 16GB of ram

Not sure what the problem could be then, i really thought that card would be much better. happends in other games abit also.

Cheers anyways

It can cause conflicts . But most of the time do not cause anything.

On topic, when i see Gigabyte in combination with AMD, i have very bad habit to blame GB (no matter if is motherboard or GPU involved) because in one decade i didn't used PC with GB motherboard/GPU that was working as it should, and i always repeat that to help people, not to flame on GB.

OP its probably to to with your FlipQueue Size (RenderAhead) and/or Triple Buffering Setting, and/or framerate not being limited.

When I had my 7970 the smoothest gameplay for me was.....

Vsync OFF both ingame and driver

RenderAhead 0 - in game config
TripleBuffering 0- in game config
Limit frames to 59fps (for 60hz screen) - in game config
eg
Quote:
RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 0
RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 0
GameTime.MaxVariableFps 59.00
Then in RadeonPro force Flipqueue 0 and Triplebuffering ON (yes TB on with no vsync, feels lovely and smooth when used in combination with these described settings)

If you dont want to mess with FlipQueue sizes/Triplebuffering, just try the framerate limit first off on its own and see how it is, bet that alone makes it feel smoother.

Hi,

Vsync OFF gives me tearing, which i hate
How do i turn RenderAhead/ TripleBuffering to 0- in game config?

In game won't allow me to Limit frames to 59fps on my for 60hz screen)
Is there another way?

I did notice in the Catalyst control setting, if i have Anti-Aliasing Mode set to Super- sample AA, it kill my frame rate! has to be set to Multi-Sample AA. But i get more jaggie lines in BF3.

Cheers

Framelimit of 59 with Triplebuffering forced through RadeonPro will eliminate 99% of tearing.

Ive already given you the commands to do what I suggested.

In your BF3 game folder create a user.cfg file.
Put the following in in.
Quote:
RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 0
RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 0
GameTime.MaxVariableFps 59.00
(you may need to create it with notepad then save it as user.cfg)

Then in RadeonPro set up a profile for BF3, set FlipQueue to 0 and then in Tweaks section, tick enable Triplebuffering.
Dont enable Vsync ingame or in RadeonPro.

Try it and see how smooth it is !!!
