I can't even SEE the catalyst screen, it's transparent .. any ideas? ( screenshot ) -

I got this card to replace my nvidia gts 250 .. which I uninstalled and then used driver sweeper on ( I've heard mixed comments about driver sweeper ) .. but every time I would boot up, windows would just sit there loading and never display the login prompt..
The only way I could actually even INSTALL the driver was to go into low resolution 640x480 mode ( pressing F8 at boot ) .. I'm using Windows 7 ultimate, 32 bit..
After I got it installed I noticed that the text on my screen was fuzzy and I had a black border around the display so I read and was told to launch catalyst control center and adjust the overscan mode .. but my CCC looks like this:

The window is essentially transparent! when you move it it glitches all up, you can see my wallpaper behind it.. the only thing that actually shows up are the advertisements ( ironic ) .. but the software is entirely unuseable
I've uninstalled the whole thing and used driver sweeper to clean up the remnants to start over..
1. I started with the MSI driver's on the DVD that came with it ( MSI HD 7770 1ghz version ) ..
2. I cleaned up the drivers and installed the latest stable drivers from ATI (12.6) .. same thing..
3. I cleaned up again and installed the latest beta, which at this time is 12.7 .. same thing
4. I've done all windows updates.. no help..
PS. I "fixed" the issue with fuzzy text by just switching from HDMI to DVI .. but the catalyst control center issue still remains..

Defragging should have no impact on it, I can understand where a registry clean could.. I do that pretty regularly though using ccleaner.. I haven't run a registry clean since changing out the cards, I did run one 2-3 days ago .. I'm not optimistic about that but I'll give it a go when I get home from work..
Meanwhile if there are any other suggestions .. I'd appreciate it! I'll be able to dedicate some time tonight to trying to troubleshoot this.. I can do the registry clean remotely from work but I can't test catalyst from here.

Unfortunately a registry clean up and disabling Aero had no effect whatsoever..

Another odd thing..

I only have one card installed but it detects it 5 times.. I've removed it completely .. I don't understand why I'm having such trouble with ccc .. but otherwise, games play fine..
I'd really love to get this fixed.. any ideas at all? I figured maybe this would help.. I'm currently running updates to .net ..

no man it does not detected five times but this mean you have 5 ports to connect to displays so my 5970 had 3 ports tow DVI ports an one mini display
so try to remove the catalyst and install other version

re-run the original setup and remove just CCC.
reboot, and rerun the setup again and reinstall just ccc
this usually works for me when CCC acts nutty.

Doh! that makes sense.. I was just thinking about that when I saw a screenshot of CCC with one entry rather than five.. I've always been an NVIDIA guy so I'm not used to CCC.
.... And so far my experience hasn't been so great =)

I'll give that a go.. what I've been doing is just uninstalling using the AMD Install Manager and then trying to clear out any remnants and then reinstalling again completely each time.. I also tried removing the display driver from device manager and then uninstalling everything ( another suggestion I read ) .. no dice..
So no harm trying this as well.. I think I've reinstalled now like 7 or 8 times.. if that doesn't work then the last thing I'm going to try is to back up my system to a disk image and then reinstall windows completely just to make sure it works THAT way..

I find when dealing with betas, its always best to use the original setup to uinstall, as the CIM could be incomplete/bugged...

So far nothing I've tried here, or on my own has helped.. so I hooked up a spare drive I had laying around and installed windows 7 from scratch..
Unfortunately ...
It worked ... !
This tells me I have something in there causing problems, but I don't know quite what it is .. so I need to reconnect my drive and go through it .. I've tried driver sweeper and other things, but obviously something is screwing with the card... no clue.. I think on this fresh install I'll do all the windows updates, direct x and everything... and just see what it does..
I hate mysteries.. meanwhile, with this in mind - we know that my hardware isn't the problem.. which is a plus, I was beginning to think it might be... any other ideas?

since youve already used driver sweeper, try the atiman uninstaller and see if it improves.
make sure to get the newest: 7.0.2

I have Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 1GB GDDR5 - x2.
I have also this problem with ccc not working at all.
And tried everything with removing old stuff and reinstalled.
And used cc cleaner etc.
I canīt even open ccc.
When installing it says all ok.
But when try to open ccc it canīt because of dll failure.
When it worked i also had several screens - 5 to manage.
Now nothing works.
My motherboards is a
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Int...8Z68V_PROGEN3/
and I thought it was some kind of trouble with it because I have two cards and a screen to every card but only one screen can be seen in the system.
Any ideas of whats wrong ?

Hi
Catalyst Control Centre uses assembly files, these can become corrupt if more than one catalyst driver is installed one on top of the other.
"in window folder veiw" - look in C:\Windows\assembly and see if there are any Token's that match this one; Public Key Token 90ba9c70f846762e - if the answer is yes -
-you could try this -
uninstall the catalyst drivers (choose express) from the catalyst 12.7 beta setup; [which ever was the last driver installed]
reboot into safe mode (F8) run driversweeper select ATI-Display - select Analyse - select clean Note: do not restart, leave driversweeper open on desktop
go to C:\Windows\assembly - and delete all Public Key Token's that read 90ba9c70f846762e [ONLY 90ba9c70f846762e]
you will need admin rights
reboot via DS
allow windows to load and then reinstall the last Catalyst driver known to work

I opted to go the extreme route and just reinstall windows, I have backups .. a fresh install is something I needed to do anyway and had been planning on ..
The good news is that everything now works .. CCC load perfectly, games are running... and the key reason I got an ATI card for now works flawlessly ... bitcoin mining ..
I'm loving the card now that things are error free, but I have to say that I'm not thrilled with the experience of setting it up .. and I think it's kind of lame that AMD has ads in the software... I never had so much trouble before.. every nvidia card I've owned has been super easy ..
Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions!
