I am building a small micro atx computer - I have most of the parts from microcenter- I was wondering if i should go with i3 2100 sandy bridge or wait for new i3 ivy bridge desktop chips..will there be a performance difference..

If it is just for basic use it doesn't really matter. I would just get SB. IB will be slightly faster and use slightly less power, that's all.

Ivy Bridge i3 will probably also be slightly more expensive, just like i5-3570k is more expensive than 2500k and 3770k more expensive than 2600k.

Do you already own a motherboard? For out-of-the-box Ivy compatibility, it needs to be 7-series
