I don't think the scores are to low for this old driver.. Softmodding with 8.723 driver and HD4xxx series (and below) works fine, but I think AMD massivly pushed performance with newer drivers.. There was an old review of FirePro V8800 (HD5870) which had similar scores (only remember CATIA)..

bump

have to say my modded 4870 is still doing a nice job on heavy assemblies. Are the newer firepro cards way better? any news on potential of modding, Shocko I bow to your great skills.

I'm still pleased with my setup and SW.

Probably I will put the wrong question, but do you think the nvidia quadro 600 will make the difference?

Thank you.

Default Softmod old R580 into FireGL 7200 on Win 7 64? - 06-13-2012, 00:38 | posts: 14

This worked for me on Win XP 32, but I have upgraded my operating system now and I am having trouble finding drivers from ATI that match this operating system for that card.

Will the driver 8.44 work for Win 7 64 bit on an R580 (X1900XT) for 3DS Max 2012?

Here are two patchscripts I used before:

Hello there))

Still looking for a softmod? According to AMD's internal docs - they have no infrastructure on a gaming chips higher than 5xxx to support texel scatter etc. However, I can not confirm this because have no card

@Farzon, not sure, but I think its 4800.

@All, noob question: ¿What happends if we patch all the dlls from firepro drivers to Radeon ones? In this way we can have the Radeon as "Radeon" with the Firepro improvements, and the script patch and drivers signing innecesary.

I have a 7750 (equivalent to W600).

Yes very interested. Even the newest drivers modded for cards like 4870 would be huge!
Thanks !

@terrablader

try installing newest driver with only (!) modding inf to recognize your card.. then copy over patched atikmdag.sys from 8.723 driver to windows\system32\drivers.. works perfect for me, even with Mobility HD5870..

greetings

btw. this was a hint by schoko three pages earlier..

wo nice, what driver are you doing this with? im going to try this with 8.9113.4

edit--

Looks like they changed things a bit should i mod the inf in the W7_INF OR W7A_INF folder?

CL140087.inf, CW140087.inf, C7140087.inf, CH140087.inf

also there is many inf files now which one should i change? for windows 7 64bit , 8750 firepro?

bleh they changed the [Manufacturer] section too which chip is the 8750? for 4870 mod? would it be RV770? if so i dont see it on the list...

Yeah I forgot to mention this.. I don't know which folder I took (moved and renamed) but I have C7140087.inf and CH14087.inf in it..

I think you only need to mod C7140087 for Windows 7 (Windows NT 6.1)..

I have HD4890 and first part looks like that..

Code:
[ATI.Mfg.NTamd64.6.1]
"%AMD9460.1%" = ati2mtag_RV7XGL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9460
Then you have to define the language independent name variable for your card

Code:
; Localizable Strings
;
DiskId = "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Installation DISK (VIDEO)"
GraphAdap    = "Graphics Adapter"
ATI = "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc."
DisplayUninstall = "AMD Display Component Uninstall"
ATIR300="WDDM (R300)"
AMD9460.1 = "ATI FirePro V8775 (FireGL)"
I called mine V8775 because I have HD4890 OK I think this is it, works fine for me this way..

Greetings

that seems to work thanks. my card is showing up as a 2200 not 8750? wierd..

are you getting realview to work in Solidworks?

Viewperf 10 SW01 test weighted mean 138fps

but with 7.23 drivers 148fps

Sorry, can't test RealView as we don't have SolidWorks.. I only benchmarked CATIA and got noticable performance boost from 8.723 driver.. Regarding the name, look at "; Localizable Strings" section and search the device ID of your card then you can change the string displayed..

CADCAT: are you getting the "copy over patched atikmdag.sys" hack to work with dual monitors? When I try it with the latest drivers, it's only allowing me to use one monitor...

Default Good laptop video card for Firepro mod? - 08-12-2012, 17:21 | posts: 213 | Location: ca

I looked on ebay for mobil 4870 but those are really pricey. What is the next level down that can be modded what laptop video card would be a safe bet to mod. and still get some performace.

i modded a x1600 but that one is pretty weak.

thanks

What do you mean with pricey? Got my HD4890 for 50 Euro.. (used of course) If this is too much you could look for HD3870 e.g.. For Notebook I would look for HD2600XT/2700, HD3650 or higher HD4650 or higher, HD5650 or higher.. Important is GDDR Ram..

Default New Issue with 4870 mod - 09-07-2012, 23:20 | posts: 213 | Location: ca

I have a very large assembly in Solidworks. It was created on a PC with an unmodded 4870 card. For some reason the assembly will not open on any PC modded 4870 to FirePro 8750. If I mod the card to 8750 on that main PC it won't open again..

Should mention the PC is modded perfectly. Its very happy opening all kinds of large parts and assemblies.

Any ideas. This is very odd. Never before had this kind of issue with FrePro Softmod. Thank you!!!!..

Does anyone have advise on Why Solidworks sometimes does not see the softmod? 7.23 drivers 4780 as FirePro 8700. It works for a while then seems to not see the card as a pro series again.. SWX 2012. Thanks.

Win7 64

Is there a way to reset how SWX sees the card?

Hello guys, I need to buy a laptop ( new, not used one ) with fully softmodable graphic card, which gpu do you suggest ? Im Solidworks user and from time to time I need to visit my customers and show them my products ( realview is important in this case ), since I've got stationary workstation I don't want to spend money for expensive mobile one, this laptop has to give me a possibility to run a product showcase and it's not desired to everyday work , however I don't like to see any blocks and glitches during moving and rotating models so opengl performance must be reasonable - my assemblies are usually under 500 parts ( mostly 50-200 ) and my other pc with modded HD4850 is doing just fine so mobile equivalent should be ok.

SWX keeps losing the ability to use the SoftMod

Would using a modded atiogl.xml ? help does anyone have that file for 8.723.2 Drivers?

The link on the first page in down.

Or should I just reinstall SWX?

edit sorry for the multiple post i was trying to delete them.

edit adding update:

I determined the problem was when I have a seccond 4870 enabled. Not sure why SWX is all of the sudden losing the FireGL capabilities when the seccond 4870 is running. Both cards are modded as 8750. Very odd. But SWX gets the fast frame rate back from the 8750 when I disable card#2. Anyone seen this? Seems after a fresh install of the OS it works for a while with both but possibly eventually trips up and reverts. This is particully the case when taking a file created on another system. Having both cards running as 8750 worked for me for over 1 year. This is just a new wierdness.

Thanks.
