If you can't plan your own route, kit requirements etc then you're probably not ready for wild camping for that length of time.

Furthermore, it's better to buddy up for wild camping as the weight of the extra kit required is best shared. Very difficult to do for any length of time on your own. Also if you are walking routes, particularly high ones you havent done before its best to have a mate there.

If you going solo I recommend a max of about two maybe three days out. You can just about carry enough water etc for that. Make sure your route is known before you go.

Few things, like hallryu said, 2weeks as a first trip is way too much, you are not going to make it (not saying that you will likely die there but wont be fun at all).

1. Learn to read the map and use compass. This is absolute must, buy map and compass and start training. Go for a walk in forest (or out from city) and practise. Learning basics doesnt take that long, but be sure that you can identify place where you are from the map (and if you cant, what to do and how not end up walking in circles).

2. Practice night or two first (at known places). If you have not used to sleep on hard surface which might not be flat it might give you back problems and so. Start easy first. Water supply (where to refill). There are tablets which you can put to bottled lake water to make it drinkable. Learn to drink enough and basic skills what to do (or get a friend) if you cant get phone signal and broke your leg or so.

So, take map and compass, check how to use those, go to camping site and stay there for a night or two and study that map a bit and see what it's like to sleep outside and so.

wow daminen without computer for 2 weeks?
make sure you get good food and not canned rice, lol you need proteins and vitamins if you want to live in the wild for that long.
get a good sturdy tent as well, and try to find a place that is free of bears and stuff, i dont think you have bears in UK, but if you came to the Carpathians, there is no rule to camp, as well as no rule for bears for whom to eat

just find an isolated place that is not patroled by police or authorities.

Our problem is that all the land in the country is owned by someone and most enforce the 'no camping' rule. Despite its very hard to get caught tbh, even in the Peak District where most paths are fairly well trodden. No other serious outdoors men will report you unless you're making a mess or fail to leave the site as you found it.

Just seems strange to me. But then we have pretty much complete freedom to roam here through allemannsretten (all man's right) where all "utmark" is free for all to use, privately owned or not. Having restrictions on hiking/camping in the wild is utter nonsense.

He's a tosser. All his 'stunts' are planned and executed by real men first. He then comes in and acts like a twat.

Ray Mears is the real deal. A gentleman, a scholar and a real inspiration to those who want to use the outdoors in a responsible and respectful way.

I would cross the road to piss on Bear, but he would probably drink it! What a he is.

Agreed. We now have the 'right to roam' following the mass trespass on Kinder Scout in the Peak District in 1932. Before then most wealthy land owners used to prosecute trespassers if they could.

I know they plan the entire thing. Planned or not, he survives without getting any help. He has great knowledge about it.

Strong words about someone who has admited that Ray Mears is tougher than him (source). Also, about some stuff he does, you cant simply reinvent everything, it's quite likely that someone has tried some stuff before. The point is that he knows what to do, I think that he doesnt need to have someone holding his hand and telling him what he should do. Doing what he does for quite some time simply has to have given him some kind of knowledge about that stuff.

Let's say you find a place and are leaving for this trip tomorrow... what's in your pack? 2 weeks is a relatively long time - I pack in the wilderness here in California pretty regularly (both in designated wilderness areas and the occasional state/national park), but if I were to go for a 2-week trip, I'd have a pack animal.

Did you mean 'live off the land'? How familiar are you with edible flora? Are you planning to hunt/fish for food? How is the 'wild' water supply in England?

He's going to find it very hard if not impossible for that length of time. Living off the land is extremely difficult if you are not skilled. Wild trapping and fishing is time consuming and can be very hard to master.

I think he needs to go wild camping many times first, with provisions. During these trips he should get to learn what he can to improve his foraging and trapping skills as he goes. Edible flora and fungi is a minefield, get it wrong and you're in deep ****, especially with fungi.

In scotland it's pretty much fine to camp wherever as long as you're: not in someone's house, immediate surroundings or garden; in a farmers field; driving around in a car off road; hunting, shooting or fishing (fishing is news to me, I assume it's permitted in certain places). And you have to respect land owners wishes.

The Highlands are the best place for it, too many ramblers in all the other places.

You should go to London for 2 weeks and scavenge and beg for food whilst living on the streets, I'm sure that'd be an experience you'd never forget.

Yeah maybe Damien should go watch the Movie Deliverence before he goes and just hope there are no Hillbillies out there!
