DDR3 doesn't like too much voltage on higher speeds ? -
06-06-2012, 20:19

I have DDR3-1333 memory from Corsair XMS3
When I put 1.6v through them I can get 7-7-6-20 CR1
But I seem not to be able to reach 1600 no matter how loose the timings are it crashes instantly and my screen goes wacky because I use integrated graphics.
Now when lowering the voltage everything seems perfectly stable. And I have to say rock stable. And I cannot tighten the timings any further so it's strange.
Has anyone seen this before ?
I am trying to get it stable now at 11-11-11-33 CR1 @ 1600mhz
I loosened tWCL by 2 clocks. to make sure everything would work and it seemed to help so far.
11-11-11-33 CR1 @ 1600mhz looks stable 20% coverage hci memtest
10-10-10-30 CR1 @ 1600mhz looks also stable 20% coverage hci memtest
all at 1.525v DRAM

Which type do you have specifically?? You max voltage could range anywhere from 1.5v-1.65v depending on the exact model. Here is a link to all the 2x4gb mem sticks newegg currently has. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...rder=BESTMATCH

You need a high voltage to run ram at its highest speed and to keep it stable,i use 1.65v and my ram is running way past its specified speed with no problems

Ive got 16gb of Corsair Vengeance, and its the White Low Profile sticks. 4 4gb sticks.
They're rated 1600mhz, 1.5v.
And they will not run a wink over 1600mhz at any voltage, NOR will the timing run any faster than 9-9-9-24.
Ive read some reviews of this ram that says its wonderful ram, but doesn't take to overclocking. I thought at first running 4 sticks might have been holding me back from getting to 1866 or 2000mhz, but for me, 16gb was better than faster speeds. But then I found out it wasn't me, it was the ram, based on a couple reviews I read in magazines and online.
Could be the same thing here. I know the Dominator ram overclocks very well, Ive had good luck with those sticks being able to really push them to much higher than rated speeds and still keep the timings tight.
