As title,
Been getting this for a while about a new version of messenger, so just been cancelling it, but now its become mandatory, as after a restart, it says a new version has been downed, and i have to install to continue, so done that, but its totally buggered, the window is constantly flashing black, half my contacts have gone etc....
Anyone else suffered ?

Sorted, it was D3Doverrider causing it to flicker like billy o, but its utter crap, so going back to previous version.
Back on version 9, had to run it in Vista SP1 Compatability mode, so it doesn't force you to update to the new version, take that ms!!!

I love you. I set up a XP virtual machine just to run 2009 version but didn't think of compatibility mode.

I only remembered about it, as i had to do the same with version 7 years ago, so i could carry on using that after a forced update made it worse

Just discovered that removing the new messenger, buggers up windows live, had to download and reinstall it, to get my live games working again (GTA IV etc...).

Ah, i had that problem too.
Only used it to speak to one person, hated it so much compared to old MSN Messenger that i went out my way to get rid of all traces of Live Messenger that i completely messed up GFWL so much it took me weeks and a illogical and probably co-incidental fix to sort it.

Yeah the new messengers terrible, when i removed it, it must have took that essentials off as well, which is what probably borked it, annoyed the hell out of me, i only found out it was a live problem by switching GTA to Vista SP2 compatability, as it wouldn't load before that, just got the spinning disc for a few secs, then nothing, but switching it to Vista got it loaded, where i then discovered it wasn't signing me in, just started dropping me back to the desktop with an error, either reboot, or reinstall live, Dirt 2 was doing the same, just started to load for a few seconds, then nothng.

I use apatch on mine works like a charm. Get rid of all those crappy ads and features and its then better
(just remember to disable 'Show expanded footer in conversation windows' under options --> messages. This expanded footer is for more ad space, but its a feature that Microsoft already allows you to disable so its not an option (but is mentioned) with apatch.

Yeah, added so much crap that i felt like an 100 year old man trying to work an touch screen phone, getting rid of it did do this to me though lol.

Fantastic, just noticed that GFWL has decided at one point to stop working, cant log into with the app, and every game that uses it, crashes at start-up.
Time to search through lots of threads to see what they, or even i have done to cause the below.
Reading through the Steam forums is making me less bothered about having to wait till Friday to play this, seems to be lots of issues with DX11, also looks like the Steam one uses Steamworks and GFWL at the same time, so two pop ups for achievements lol.
