Default PCI-Express 2.0 but detected as PCI-Express 1.1 - 05-28-2012, 10:48 | posts: 273 | Location: Kedah, Malaysia

I have a problem...
I'm using a HD6870 with my mobo but in GPU-Z it stated as PCI-Express 1.1...
my mobo...
MSI K9A2 Neo-F
AMD 770 chipset

I tried...
render test using GPU-Z (no change)
change the PCI latency timer it's also failed me
update new bios (no change)
update new chipset driver (no change)

How to get the card to its maximum bandwidth to pci-express 2.0...?

you need fire up a GPU test than watch gpu-z speed reported for pci-e slot

why?

well modern gpu's they clock back pci-e slot to 1.1 from 2.0 or 3.0 to save power

It said he tried that, k3vst3r.

Next I would try reseating the card, trying a different slot (if available) and then another computer. Making sure the connectors are clean would also not hurt.

This. I think it actually just steps back from 16x PCIe 2.0 to 8x or 4x, but GPU Z displays it as "PCIe 1.1" of equivalent bandwidth (ie, PCIe 1.1 x8 instead of PCIe 2.0 x4)

This is normal, as others have said run a program that will put some load of your GPU, and the PCI-e lanes will show correctly at 2.0,

And as he states in the OP you just quoted, GPU-Z render test was used, and if that was not a lie, then that would not be the problem.

And improvement or not, most of you here would still prefer that it worked as it should.

No, In a nutshell PCI-E 1.1 is half the speed of the different variants of 2.0. So 1.1 x16 is equivalent to 2.0 x8.

No, GPU-Z is stating that the slot is only PCI-E 1.1, so try the card in another, and also, if you have any other cards in any of the other PCI-E slots, try removing them (so you only have the 6870 in), to see if that changes it.
